People were PO'd that SSC made figures?
This is madness!

It was a lot more than that, one of the major components was that one of the troopers was based on a SS employee and not a movie character. Throw that on top of a pile of erratic choices and not making the most requested figures, and suddenly half of the people collecting these figures (or more) jumped ship.

I got my RFT yesterday, my first SS figure in about 9 months. The paint on it is really bad, a big letdown from the proto, which was perfect.

Fair enough, picked up the Infantryman at the weekend and he's a great figure.
Think I'm gonna have to track down his team-mates.

Back on-topic, RFT looks great. But don't think one will be enough. If I get him I'll end up shelling out for Antillies and a couple more. Not to mention some different headsculpts...

Cheers,
Doug

Well I took mine out and he really doesn't do much for me, but Im sure once I get the Stormies in hand and Antillies, I'll like him a bit more.

Hence the need for an RFT expansion pack!! SS why not give us the boots, uniform, and helmet for retail sale!!!!???? Then we can buy whatever we want for a body, a buck or tru type or whatever. I too want to do a bit of army building, but paying SS $80 more bucks to do it aint gonna happen.

So buy it parted out, go through a secondary retailer, wait for sales, use a Live.com discount on eBay. There are ways to get it cheaper.

Oh God, the horror... and I'm sure people would have noticed if they just claimed it was a random person :lol People need to lighten up

The biggest issue is that these were part of the Inclusive ordering system, which left Sideshow with a lot of unpurchased figures as the pre-orders fell through. And my guess is a major reason why we no longer see inclusive orders even for the more important characters.

:lol I bet Dave in Graphic Design is glad he never came forward and publicly said he was the other "non-movie" trooper.

No, the edition sizes on these were all set and known before anyone ordered them, they just came with the option of ordering in a bundle to save on shipping. I ordered that way, but never opened and ended up trading the Brandt trooper.

I just got my RFT on Saturday. I love this figure. He looks much better in person. The coolest thing is that he SCREAMS "ORIGINAL TRILOGY."

The RFT is a 1000 times cooler than the Three Stooges we got last year.

Are you sure about that... I thought they allowed as many orders for the bundle (ie inclusive) as people wanted and then the figures went up for regular order.

My bad if I was wrong about the ES being inclusive for the bundle... but I still contend the sculpt being based off a employee did not tank figure sales.

On another board, there were all kinds of people railing against it and did stop buying. They were so vehement in their posts that it caused a lot of members to flock to here for a friendlier atmosphere. And that sculpt was one of several final straws, that and Nik Sant had the lowest edition sizes at a time when they were still selling 9000+ per figure.

It makes me wonder, what would have been different if they had chosen to do 3 RFTs instead, would there have been one less straw?

I think you have to keep in mind that the other board was notorious for it's histrionics, and whereas it may have been representative of a huge number of potential sales, what we saw was still the reaction of the ultimate in spoiled Star Wars fans.

Perhaps Sideshow should have taken this into consideration when they began the line. Or perhaps they never had any intention of sucking up to the biggest princesses in the geek universe. I like Nik Sant. I like the rebel trooper too. I knew it was being painted by a factory in China that doesn't give a crap about how their work turns out for an American company, and that the company does not have the resources to babysit their factories 365 days a year. What else is new?

When we get Palpatine quality, it's amazing. When we don't, I'm still impressed. I don't expect 2005 prices because it's not 2005 anymore. I'm just happy that there are still Star Wars figures coming and that they don't cost $160 a piece.

Couldn't have said it better myself and that actually probably is a good idea of the factories. HT can more easily check out their factories and make sure the product is up to their standards, SS less so. And when ya think about how many figures come out a year, I can honestly seeing most people at all levels of the factory saying "screw it, they'll come out good enough for them because it's not like they can check up on us".

Yeah. To an extent it's an assumption, but if they had such a virtuous work ethic, and were so proud of the job they were doing on the figures, wouldn't they be turning out better? I don't know. I'm not too gifted when it comes to conspiracy theories and raising the torch and pitchfork brigade whenever a company doesn't give me what I want and then some. It's possible that Sideshow is Ebenezer Scrooge incarnate and makes the worst possible figures at the highest possible prices just because they can.

:lol

I'm not jaded enough to accept that conclusion.

I would rather get ten figures a year. If Sideshow made a point of not releasing a figure until it had a sculpt as good as their best offerings, I think the need for Hot Toys would fall flat.

Pretty impressed with this guy...

The sculpt and the paint apps are great...looking forward to Antilles now.
