Everybody says that. Must see it. I am officially making it next on my list.Quarantine is immensely inferior to Rec. It's almost embarrassingly so. I haven't seen Rec 2, but I'm looking forward to it.

how is it inferior? I saw both, and they seemed to be almost exactly the same except I could understand what they were saying in Quarantine

Quarantine isn't a bad movie by any means. It just felt like a Hollywood remake that gets so many things wrong. 1) The protagonist. The female reporter character is important. Angela (in Rec) kept it together and remained a reporter throughout the movie, no matter how afraid she was. In Quarantine, Angela falls apart immediately. Instead of the strong reporter that is coping with the situation (while showing signs of duress), the Angela in Quarantine doesn't come across as such and proceeds to screech and cry hysterically. This is just my personal tastes though. Some of my friends like Q's Angela more because they reasoned she was less experienced.
2) Quarantine feels fake. The flashy slickness and faked lighting kills the realism that REC had. In REC, the camera work and lighting was mundane, which helped it feel like it really was a camera guy filming a local reporter in a shabby apartment building. Quarantine instead goes for scary movie ambiance, which isn't necessary.
3) REC never explains the cause of the whole zombie-ness. The movie hints at it near the end (the creepy room with the creature and all those newspaper clips alluding to some religious incidents). In Quarantine, one of the minor characters, with great insight, reveals to us that a mutant-super-rabies virus (or whatever) is the cause, which is less scary and interesting.
That's most of my complaints. I also think Quarantine was hurt because I recognized some of the actors from different films (Jennifer Carpenter from Emily Rose, Jay Hernandez, etc).
I think a big reason for why some people like Quarantine over Rec is because they saw Quarantine first. Slick production values and the general Hollywood shine is hard to get over. But there's nothing wrong with liking that sort of thing.
I like the bare bones type of horror film and I'm pretty sure a lot of people feel the same. It's why films like The Blair Witch Project, 28 Days Later, and more recently Paranormal Activity get so much buzz...because their small budgets encourage creativity instead of flashy effects. They all feel real.
I hope Rec 2 is just as good as the first.
Wait, it doesn't have subs? Maybe I won't be getting it then. How am I suppose to understand it?yeah, i saw Quarantine first, and I thought REC just looked cheap in comparison which was the point I guess. I think the "zombies" just looked scarier as well, especially at the end, that chick was scary as ^^^^, but I liked both, I just wish I could understand evrything that was said in REC. Did they ever make that film with english subs?
Okay sweet. That's reassuring to know. This is next on my list. The U.S. dvd has subtitles.

The version I watched was dubbed over in English. Also not a cheesy as I thought it would be.
I hope I get that one. I hate reading. It takes away because you can't pay attention to all the visuals. Is there different covers or something so I know which one to get?
Not sure about different covers. I just went to Blockbuster and took what they had.
