I've never been a fan of FPS. I've never felt like RE was a shooter game, at least not RE1 et all. For me it's more about survival, strategy, and puzzle solving. I love REmake b/c the zombies are tougher to kill and keep dead. Still, I really enjoyed the RE6 demo.

you never played Halo or COD?

Halo and CoD are prime examples to hate FPS's since they started the big boom. I still like Halo and CoD but only for the solo campaign. I don't like its multiplayer. Too many prepubescent kids and people who only play Halo or CoD and nothing else and are therefore too damn good and ruin the experience. Also, "dudebros."

Perfect Dark and Goldeneye, when FPS's were not good, but great!

How can you not feel that 4 thru current aren't shooters? To me that doesn't make sense.

From what I've played of the 3DS game thought that seems like a true throw back. I wish they ported that to consoles.

I mean the first generation RE games aren't FPS as much as survival horror. I never got the feeling playing the early RE games that the shooting aspect was what the game was all about. To me it more about completing the puzzles and staying alive. I try not to needlessly kill things. Which I enjoy more. I haven't played 4 and 5 yet actually. I haven't played a RE game seriously since RE2 really. The last two consoles I bought were PS2 and Wii, and I bought the Wii going back... I think a couple of years now. I'm just getting back into gaming as I have more money for it (cause come on.. Hot Toys aren't cheap! lol).

I still like to think RE is a lot different than Halo (which I have played, and just never got the taste for). It still has horror, intriguing characters, and some puzzles (no?).

These new RE games are completely different. You do more shooting than anything else. Ammo is in full supply everywhere and the focus really is to shoot everything.

I miss the old games like crazy. But to be honest I did enjoy 4 and 5.

Hmm, I guess I enjoy FPS more than I thought, lol! I think my love for the characters is what brought me back to the franchise. Gaming in general seems to need a push, it's like it's become more about who has the best graphics than it has story and character design. So I'm glad RE is still pushing the story aspect. At least that's my take.. I don't see a whole lot that is drawing me in necessarily.

This is pretty accurate. I'm playing RE Zero right now and it is miles different than what 4, 5, and 6 are. Those are about shooting where as the games before 4 were about problem solving.

Alright, I played for a bit last night, but there is one part that didn't seem to be working for me.

When Leon is being attacked by the first zombie after healing Helena, there is a meter bar when he's out of bullets. Earlier in the game it was easy to work with when opening the door. But for some reason, I'm struggling to figure out the meter bar on the zombie.
:slap

My Anthology should be arriving today! Going to start with RE1 until RE6 :D :rock

You should track down RE0 if you have a Wii. If not I'd grab the Umbrella Chronicles. It's not an RE game to be missed. My Anthology will be here today as well, I can't wait. My 3DS XL will be here as well.. so I can play Revelations.

Well then you will definitely like this. It's not too different to 4 and 5 at all.

That gamespot review is rubbish. Complete rubbish. The part about control being taken away from you? Rubbish. The quick time events are great for the simple reason that if you get it perfect, you take out the zombies and save ammo. And the part where he talks about there being little gameplay between videos? You guessed it, rubbish! There are no insane amounts of cutscenes, at least in my experience so far.

I wish I could turn back time and not watch gamespot's review. It makes me angry at the world.

Also just to note, you can pause the game but only if you play in offline mode.

Leon's second costume is quality! This is the best Chris and leon have looked on this gen's consoles imo. Hope HT do figures.

Back to the awesomeness that is mercenaries!

I don't have a Wii but I'll certainly check out Umbrella Chronicles, thanks!

The Chronicles games are defo FPS, so I think I'm going to go pick up the PS Move bundle before I play them much more.

Playing through these older games has me thinking about all of the cool RE characters we never see anymore. I miss Billy Coen.

And surviving, hence the term it coined in 1996, "Survival Horror."

Capcom has all but abandoned side characters :(

I'd track down REmake before I'd track down RE0, now THAT is a game not to be missed if you're gonna bother playing the entire series.

Definitely! Of course, w/o a Wii you don't have much options. I think REmake is my favorite entry in the series, but that's more or less b/c of my attachment to the original game. I think a remake of RE2 would top it for me, as I really got into RE2 as I played it with a good friend of mine.

Exactly. I apologize for not having much knowledge of the game play of the later games, I've yet to play anything newer than RE3 (aside from the RE0/REmake and the RE6 demo). I don't mind the changes, the games still seem like a lot of fun, but I do love survival horror. I'm thinking of giving Silent Hill a try after all these years.

Yeah, they really have. I should have guessed it once they combined Megaman X & Zero into one character, lol. Oh Capcom, when will you stop trying reinvent things every game and focus more on improving what works.

Yep, both Chronicles games are on-rails shooters covering the gist of the entire series in a nutshell with some additional side stories that never made it into the main games.

That's what I'm doing, going through a bunch of horror games I missed out on. Namely the Fatal Frame series and Silent Hill 2 and 4. I've played the RE series over countless times, already well-versed there :lol

I think I'll go through and play them after I finish the main series, or maybe RE0-3. They look great though. I like the updates Chris & Jill go, as well as Leon.

I completely forgot about Fatal Frame, I'll have to dig into that. I also really need to put away the online walkthrough for REmake, LOL.
