You seem like a nice enough person spud, so I'm not gonna egg the other guys on too much, & try to break it down for ya a bit more.ok let's just take your definition of Role Playing Games, so what is the difference between RE1 & 2 vs 3 that you like to a lesser extent? and what makes the rest of the RE games in the series less RPG oriented? and when you say central to them do you mean the storyline, or the characters (role)?
don't get me wrong i'm just trying to understand the difference between RE1,2,3 & the rest. because for someone who played all the games in the series except Gun Survivors 1 & 2, i don't see much difference in the genre except after 4 it becomes more action oriented with new controls. You play the role of Leon & Ada in 4, and Chris & Sheeva, Jill and that Black soldier in 5, and multiple roles in 6 & Racoon City.
Good to know, cheers man.RE4 is fantastic, but not at all like the previous games.
RE5 is great if you have a friend to play it with, borderline broken if you don't. If you like old 80's action films starring Schwarzenegger/Stallone/etc you'll get a kick out of playing as Chris in it.
RE6 I can't comment on, but it seems to have single-handedly killed the franchise, so...
No I haven't played that one mate.Have you played RE:CVX as well? It's definitely the hardest of all classic RE's.
Now where the hell did you play Zelda and Mario on a PS1?PS1 had tons of real RPG like Legend Of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy VI, Final Mission etc, the games you brought up are either Survivor Horror or 3rd Person Action, nothing close to being a RPG by gaming definition.
someone rep the hell out of this posts please

What's the full title, or is that it ('CVX') ?

Since, let's say - 1997ish, I pretty much thought RPGs were basically games that comprise of a title character on a quest / mission / journey (pick one); some games have more action, others more dialogue, & others involved solving riddles / puzzles - or any combination of those things again.
I don't have an extensive knowledge of every sub genre in existence.. just a basic understanding of what's out there (fighting, FPS, open world - etc), & that's only because I've been playing catch up. Hence my earlier comment where I said it was 'my personal definition'.. although plenty of folks would likely agree with me more or less that what I've laid out is on the right track at least - if not the text book definition as of January 3rd 2015.
Capisce?
It's hard due to the length in my opinion, especially if you're trying to get a high rank. also a few sequences where you can die instantly (mostly in the end) or just real easily. Also Hunters seem to be buffed a lot, especially since some can poison.
God help us...
RE2 is the best RPG
RE2 is the best RPG
i don't see how RE2 an RPG, it has RPG in it's weapon list but still not really a Role Playing Game. RE4 is probably more Action Oriented RPG, similar to Dead Space & Final Fantasy X2, and maybe even Mario RPG.
Final Fantasy VII could be considered as Survival Adventure, clearly you have to survive A.I's constant attack to continue your adventure, glad you didn't see it as Survival Horror adventure i might have fainted.
RE2 has an inventory screen with weapons you can equip. You find items, and store them. RPG.
You're all wrong anyway, clearly the best Resident Evil game is the one on the Tiger Game.Com...
