Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

ok let's just take your definition of Role Playing Games, so what is the difference between RE1 & 2 vs 3 that you like to a lesser extent? and what makes the rest of the RE games in the series less RPG oriented? and when you say central to them do you mean the storyline, or the characters (role)?

don't get me wrong i'm just trying to understand the difference between RE1,2,3 & the rest. because for someone who played all the games in the series except Gun Survivors 1 & 2, i don't see much difference in the genre except after 4 it becomes more action oriented with new controls. You play the role of Leon & Ada in 4, and Chris & Sheeva, Jill and that Black soldier in 5, and multiple roles in 6 & Racoon City.
You seem like a nice enough person spud, so I'm not gonna egg the other guys on too much, & try to break it down for ya a bit more.

Since, let's say - 1997ish, I pretty much thought RPGs were basically games that comprise of a title character on a quest / mission / journey (pick one); some games have more action, others more dialogue, & others involved solving riddles / puzzles - or any combination of those things again.

I don't have an extensive knowledge of every sub genre in existence.. just a basic understanding of what's out there (fighting, FPS, open world - etc), & that's only because I've been playing catch up. Hence my earlier comment where I said it was 'my personal definition'.. although plenty of folks would likely agree with me more or less that what I've laid out is on the right track at least - if not the text book definition as of January 3rd 2015. :lol

Capisce?

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

Sorry guys, thanks for the responses!

RE4 is fantastic, but not at all like the previous games.

RE5 is great if you have a friend to play it with, borderline broken if you don't. If you like old 80's action films starring Schwarzenegger/Stallone/etc you'll get a kick out of playing as Chris in it.

RE6 I can't comment on, but it seems to have single-handedly killed the franchise, so...
Good to know, cheers man. :duff

Have you played RE:CVX as well? It's definitely the hardest of all classic RE's.
No I haven't played that one mate.

What's the full title, or is that it ('CVX') ?

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

PS1 had tons of real RPG like Legend Of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy VI, Final Mission etc, the games you brought up are either Survivor Horror or 3rd Person Action, nothing close to being a RPG by gaming definition.
Now where the hell did you play Zelda and Mario on a PS1? :cuckoo:
:rotfl someone rep the hell out of this posts please

It's Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. It's a direct sequel to RE2 and was originally released for the Sega Dreamcast and later ported to the PS2. It received a HD remaster treatment for PS3/360 few years back. It's certainly some of the best RE games out there, but also some of the hardest.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

It's hard due to the length in my opinion, especially if you're trying to get a high rank. also a few sequences where you can die instantly (mostly in the end) or just real easily. Also Hunters seem to be buffed a lot, especially since some can poison.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

it was a clear joke but it was around the same era as PS1 because i though the guy was joking about RPGs. clearly he wasn't joking.

OK, well it's 18 years since 1997, maybe you might wanna spend 5 minutes to have a quick look up on the definitions?

1st time i hear an RPG has puzzle elements in it, there's lots of maze in most RPGs, but puzzle is rare, and most games with RPG elements involving action/FPS are considered Action RPG, in this case RE4,5,6 can be considered as Action RPG.

Because based on your definition on RPG, all games can be considered as a RPG because whether it's Need For Speed, Call Of Duty, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Sim City they all involve some sort of plot/character/mission, even Angry bird can be considered as 1.

Just my 2cents.

when you say hard, i would say the 1st RE was hard, mainly because guides weren't common back then, if you rely on yourself to solve all the puzzles, many players will more or less end up stucked at 1 point. i would say RE3 was harder in terms of the combat, mainly if you were to defeat Nemesis in every encounter. The fight where it takes place in the small alley with some Mayor monument or something was the only fight i couldn't win.

they really toned down the puzzles after RE1.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

God help us...

just trying to explain what RPG games has been all the while, since they guy already said he wasn't very sure about the genre and it's all based on his definition. i mean would help him alot next time he walks into a game store asking the shopkeepers for some horror survival and ends up being introduced a bunch of Zelda's & Final Fantasies coz he though they are the same genre as RPGs.

however i'm sure folks like you know clearly what RPGs are yet you purposely let the guy continue his misunderstandings. Or you though as long as a game comes with a Rocket Propelled Grenades it's considered as a RPG game? In that case all the RE's except gun survivor truly are RPGs. But still not Silent Hill though...

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

RE2 is the best RPG

i don't see how RE2 an RPG, it has RPG in it's weapon list but still not really a Role Playing Game. RE4 is probably more Action Oriented RPG, similar to Dead Space & Final Fantasy X2, and maybe even Mario RPG.

Final Fantasy VII could be considered as Survival Adventure, clearly you have to survive A.I's constant attack to continue your adventure, glad you didn't see it as Survival Horror adventure i might have fainted.

RE2 has an inventory screen with weapons you can equip. You find items, and store them. RPG.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

You're all wrong anyway, clearly the best Resident Evil game is the one on the Tiger Game.Com...

Not Action RPG?

Super Mario 3 also has an inventory system where you can store the power ups and open the screen in big map world, so does Rockman.
