Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

I'm comfortable but not to the extent of the other games. I still need RE3 though, is it still on sale on PSN?

I'm halfway through on Chris, I'm on the Black Tiger. Normal mode and Chris in this game isn't nearly as bad as I thought, dare I say I'm having an easier time than with Jill from the first go, like with the Elder Crimson Head

You just missed the RE sales by a few days but don't worry, I noticed that RE games get discounted at least once a year on PSN.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

eh, I'll go back to searching for a physical copy. I still need 2 and 3, maybe an extra copy of the first game.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

i finished my 1st playthrough with Jill yesterday but i forgot where the tiger statue was, the one where you use the yellow an blue gems then i rememberd i never did use the elevator on the 1st floor where Kenneths body was. dont know if thats where i blow it or not because i never did run into the statue.

Interesting video, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks the gamecube is to blame for the low sales

SuperBunnyHop more often than not, makes the best arguments and his assessment of REmake is spot on. The Gamecube definitely killed classic RE, as I barely know any of my real life friends who had a GC and REmake, they always came to my place to play it.

I remember REmake garnering near perfect scores back in the day but nowadays (prior to the HD launch) it's not uncommon to find people who haven't even heard of the game! The Resident Evil has become a bad joke, and the idea of some gamers never even knew this game is just a testament that RE is nothing more than a brand name nowadays.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

Wow, great video. It really helps put things into perspective with where the series could've gone - & ultimately failed, due to box heads at the wheel.

I adore the original game, for all it's good - & bad attributes. I think he may've been a tad critical of it to be honest.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

I do agree on the GameCube being to blame - it's a good system with some of my favorite games, but most of them really didn't come out till after REmake I believe, like Zelda: Wind Waker, and Metroid Prime. The GameCube didn't have much at the time as it just started out, and it definitely did not have an RE following. RE only had on game on the N64, compared to the first three games (and CV on Dreamcast) on PS1, and some other systems too. I don't really get why Shinji Mikami wanted the series exclusively on GameCube, it really doesn't make sense. :dunno:

And yeah, RE is sort of a bad joke. It sucks, and isn't pleasant. Not many people want to play it for a reason. It's a shame though, there is something great to be found in the games.

REmake/RE0 was the only reason why I got a Gamecube. I did buy other games though, but the main purpose was to play RE. :lol

Its weird to think that, in a way, Mikami is to blame for what happened to RE

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

I might get flamed for saying this, but as a first time player of REmake, I really don't believe that the "horror" aspect of the game effectively holds up by today's standards. The first time I encountered a Crimson Head was pretty scary, especially hearing it on surround sound. However, at this point in time, I've already seen significantly more terrifying running zombies in movies and other video games. Of course, I'm just stating my impressions here, but it doesn't seem as if REmake has aged all that well, especially since zombies have been very overused and watered down in pop-culture over the years.

I guess there is a deep sense of appreciation and nostalgia for those of you who first played it back in 2002. But, at the same time, it's this appreciation for the game's horror that was completely lost to me. From the way I see it, the re-released version of REmake was a love letter to long-time fans - while, someone like me, who has gotten into the party years later, would be left scratching their heads. To put it bluntly, this is not a game that would make me lose a night's sleep, or give me nightmares of any kind.

However, I definitely enjoyed the frustrating, "survival" aspect of REmake. I liked how I had to ration my ammo and supplies to make it out of the mansion alive. It was also pretty interesting how I had to burn corpses in order to keep them from reanimating into Crimsons. I'd certainly like to see those elements returned for a future story of RE, as I can see how the games have gotten too easy over the years.

Lastly, I'll have to say that the mansion was shockingly similar to a typical dungeon from The Legend of Zelda, with all of the puzzles, keys and treasure chests. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not :lol.

I do agree, and feel it's more about the atmosphere, with how dark the mansion is, the areas, presence of some enemies and how you ration things. A few of the scares didn't get me. It was only some that I just didn't expect at all like the monsters jumping through windows at times, but the crimson head did get me legitimately. I don't think RE as a whole has aged that well, due to some archaic design choices and of course the tank controls. I got into the series much later, around the time 4 came out (though I had been up to date on the series as a whole) but I still have an appreciation for what it tried, if not only since I always wanted to try it out but wasn't able to for various reasons. But it wouldn't give me nightmares either.

Gamecube's sales weren't that bad, in fact it was so good they came up with so many new colors of them.

But i believe most people have Playstation 2 & Xbox but not a Gamecube because of piracy? Gamecube had those small disc that cost more than a standard dvd while PS2 & Xbox used standard DVD and with a simple mod chip it will run any games. Also Nintendo units can only output signals designated to their region, so most PAL games won't show up on NTSC system & vice versa, you get audio but no visual, some games can run on both but the memory card can't be shared among different system.

I think Nintendo really went full retard with their anti-piracy & regional control back then.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

hahahaha bro ! you know I usually like the games you like
except this time his different
remake is still a good survival-horror game for what it tried to accomplish
it set the standard for other horror games at the time

on the Ray meter I give it 8/10 (8 being awesome, 9 being unreal, and 10 being epic).

It's just that I was told how scary this game was going to be, and I guess my expectations fell short of that :lol. But, you're right, REmake did do a marvelous job of blending the elements of its atmosphere and gameplay well.

But, one thing for certain, is that I won't like to revisit the clumsiness of of tank controls anytime soon. The camera-angle and control set-up for RE 4 is actually my favorite in the series; just for the fact, that it made the gameplay more claustrophobic, and you couldn't see what's approaching Leon from behind.
