Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

I've bought this game several times already so will feel like a right mug if I buy it again...

That said, I do want it, I'll wait for a steam sale..

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

It's just that I was told how scary this game was going to be, and I guess my expectations fell short of that :lol. But, you're right, REmake did do a marvelous job of blending the elements of its atmosphere and gameplay well.

But, one thing for certain, is that I won't like to revisit the clumsiness of of tank controls anytime soon. The camera-angle and control set-up for RE 4 is actually my favorite in the series; just for the fact, that it made the gameplay more claustrophobic, and you couldn't see what's approaching Leon from behind.
Yeah, that's the problem with games, someone may really enjoy it due to certain things but those things may not apply to everyone. In your case, it could be due to jumping ship late into RE while everyone else here played REmake prior and was into the series early on. When did you first play RE? I played around the time of 4, and tried 2 as well around the time.

The third person camera angle just worked for RE, considering camera angles were a huge part of RE. I feel REmake really made it work in particular with all things considered, a lot of the angles just worked for things that would surprise you, and it even showed you a good view of the area at times.

I played RE 1 to 3 years back, and couldn't even remember them, to be honest :lol. I never got a lasting sense of horror from the games, and for whatever reason, I wasn't into the series in the long run. Similarly, I played RE 4 back in 2005, and just left it off - I don't think I even finished it. I'm just a filthy casual compared to where you guys are with this series :stick.

Maybe if I played REmake years back, my opinion would have been different. But, as it stands, I came in late, and whatever made this game truly special years ago is at a complete loss for me. If I could give you an analogy, it's like finding a time-capsule and not being able to relate its contents.

But, one thing I will say, is that I enjoyed it a lot more than the crap-fest of RE 5 and 6.

Yeah same on RE4, I didn't have much of a lasting run. I didn't really touch the series again till 2010 where I played the first game and soon 2, then CV and REmake, which I didn't really like at first due to the GameCube controller not working for RE to me. I haven't really bothered with 3, I just couldn't really get into it either and always had some odd stigma against it, not sure why :lol it looked a little more dull

RE5 could have been good, it held such promise. Capcom gave into pressure. 6...had problems from the start, I'm pretty sure of that. We just didn't know how bad.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

I went into 5 expecting a fun co-op game, and got one of the best split screen games of last gen, so I put 5 a lot higher than most people.

I spent dozens of hours in Mercs alone with my brother, just having fun.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

I'm pretty much in the same boat on RE5. I get why people wouldn't enjoy it if you went at it solo - but playing co-op with my friend Jake was one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. Hell, we recently went back and started replaying it again for nostalgia's sake. And you know what, its still pretty damn awesome.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

Whoever said that? It's far from it sure, but I think it's aged beautifully even before remastering. As much as I love it, I still RE2 is better.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

I think the mansion as a whole is nice in terms of its artistic value, and there's certainly a lot of decent camera angles that keep zombies out of your sight. But, judging from an outside perspective, it just appears that there's a lot of grandstanding around the net, for appreciating the nostalgic qualities of REmake. In particular, I don't think tank the controls have aged too well with the older RE games (although, I'd have to admit, that the "alternate" controls were much worse). The zombies are also a bit comedic at this point, as there's certainly a lot more terrifying versions of the undead that were conceptualized in pop culture, from the last thirteen years since the game was first released.

Anyway, I'm going to play some RE 2 later tonight. I downloaded it last week from the PSN Store, and haven't even touched it as yet :lol.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

Tank controls have always been fine. If you can't adapt that's your problem lol. You just played other games that have a different pov. Hell re4 5 and 6 have tank controls... Or at least 4/5 do. Can't remember 6.

No other control scheme works for fixed camera angles.

Also slow zombies are better than fast ones. All day everyday.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

I got the CQC and Invisible trophies over the weekend. I'm going for real survival tonight, and later in the week I'll do hard mode and get the visit all areas trophy.

When did I say I couldn't adapt to tank controls? :lol What I meant, is that compared to a more modern control set-up, tank controls seem rather clunky and unintuitive - and in that sense, it hasn't aged very well. Don't get me wrong, I knew what I was getting into when I played REmake, but I can't see tank controls being incorporated again, unless Capcom actually does a remake of RE 2. I'm not sure if you can classify RE 4, 5, and 6 as having "tank controls" because of their fixed third-person camera angles. But, character movements in those games were certainly a lot more natural.

I've got no problems with the fixed camera angles. I think it worked well for the most part, except in some cases where it showed too much on screen.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

Good god, I hated the alternate set-up. I tried it once, and it felt like I had no control over Jill.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

It was hard to get used to, especially after so many years with the tank controls. I got used to it though and I like it slightly more, since it makes juking zombies pretty easy.

Re: Resident Evil Remake Remastered

Yeah, I've been using the new scheme the entire time. I'm going to do a speedrun when I do hard mode, since I'll have the rocket launcher. I hope I can get it under two hours. I had 2:24 for my knife run.
