Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *ANOTHER SIDESHOW IRON MAN MKIII LSF / THE BIG FIX

saqeqydu.jpg

Okay guys, here's an update on the Iron Man LSF which i recieved on Wednesday. So as the title explains...there is good news, there is bad news and then there is more good news.

So basically the good news was that once i had unboxed everything i was happy to see that the break of the arm was clean and therefore fixable...what i wasnt expecting to see was the legs both snapped off!!! :thud: Infact, what stopped me from crying was the thought of me already owning one of these LSF's already but it was still upsetting to see.

So the right leg had completely snapped of at the knee which was the most worrying as my initial thoughts were that this leg would be the hardest to repair. The Left leg had been snapped from the top joint at the hip and was hanging by the wires that works the light up feature. This would be an easy fix but whether the light up features still work would be anyones guess!

So as you would expect, i explained the situation to the seller and to be honest, i couldnt really blame him for what had happened. The statue was well packaged in both the Sideshow shipping boxes plus the broken legs/arms were very common problems when this piece was first shipped out. What i wasnt expecting was what followed...more good news!

After viewing the pictures which i had sent the seller of all the damage incurred to the statue he decided that due to the weight and size of the item that it would not be logical to return such a damaged piece back to him and wished me luck on repairing him and then refunded me for the entire amount! :thud: :horror I was pleasantly surprised at this news especially with the progress i have made so far!

There is still a long way to go but since Wednesday i have managed to re-attach both broken legs and the broken arm and am now at the point of sanding down those specific areas, polyfilled the gaps and ready for primering. I would say at this point i am 70% confident of bringing this piece back to life although the hardest part will be trying to get a paint match on the red and gold colours...

Here are the pics i took of the damage when it arrived....WARNING, these pics contain images of a damaged Iron Man LSF, if you do not wish to see this please look away now! :lecture

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *ANOTHER SIDESHOW IRON MAN MKIII LSF / THE BIG FIX

Hey Carmelo, great pic my friend and lovely display :clap is that a Maybang Display Case which has the joker inside?

Yes it is my friend but i have to say it's way better than the master light :)

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!!*

Shock horror as I discovered how bad the damage was!! :horror

I wasn't gonna give up on this piece...once I was told that I could keep the statue free of charge I decided to repair each leg and the arm one by one with some seriously strong adhesive!! This picture shows my Iron Man LSF back on his feet!! :rock The break line on the right leg is slightly visible from the distance i took the pics from as i had to make sure that the broken part of the leg was attached at just the right position to prevent more work later down the line...

As of now, I have poly filled all the gaps and sanded them down ready for primering so it's a case of getting the colours right which will be my next obstacle. Still can't believe I have got this far as when I saw the break on the right leg I thought it would be unrepairable...only downside is the light up feature...somehow one of the wires may have become disconnected and so I am only getting the arc reactor to light up and not the eyes....:(

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

Seriously amazing, and you can't tell it has any problems, unless you take some close up pics. Are you going to paint it yourself? getting the right color is always a problem i wondered.
But nice job so far my friend.
i just can't understand how can something well packed could turn into that? unless dropped from the second floor.

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

Great work Andy, from the pics you couldn't tell it was even damaged. Getting the colors right will not be an easy job, especially the red will be difficult to match I can imagine.

But just like Weihon said, how could something like this happen. Are they really throwing around with these boxes:horror This is why I am also scared to send any statues...

Thanks Wei, thats due to the way i had to re-attach the legs on. Had to be perfect across the seam as this would help me avoid further problems down the line. Yea, painting it myself and following the same procedures as to how i repaired a friends custom Iron Man 1:1 bust which came out really well. Still a long way to go. This picture shows the statue all reattached before i had started to sand it all down.

It looks alot messier right now due to the sanding down to make the joints all smooth again...then comes the complex parts of primering and re-colouring! :panic:

Thanks Chris, getting the colours right is definately not an easy job :exactly: a wrong colour could ruin the whole look! Even though i have paid nothing for this LSF i still would be devastated if i cant get this back to looking 100% despite the LEDs in the eyes not working...i can kinda' over look that.

Im afraid that this particular LSF was renowned for broken legs and arms when it was first shipped by Sideshow...i cant see how it could have happened either :dunno The packaging was very good and supported by strong pieces of styrofoam. Maybe this LSF could have been made in separate parts to avoid damage...eg) the body, legs and helmet to be all separate and assemble together maybe? :dunno

That sucks how badly damaged IM arrived.
You did an amazing job fixing him up, He looks brand new.

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

That's the problem with one-piece statues I guess, they will break easier...

Isn't there a way to fix the lights in the eyes? Or is the wire broken somewhere?

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

F me!:horror Can't believe the damage but also can't believe how well you've repaired it! And you don't mind putting the work in when it's free too, it's a bit like putting a huge Airfix model together! Shame about the eyes but at least the Arc reactor works:yess:, which is better than none of the lights working.

Thanks Frosty :hi5: I wish pal...still a way to go im afraid...but i am impressed at how i got the right leg re-attached! This LSF is a weighty son of a ****** so i really feared the worse when seeing the damage of the leg being right in the centre above his knee. The left leg was a much easier fix...

Tell me about. Was just discussing this with one of the freaks just now. I actually think it could be injection moulded cos the casts are not solid as such...:dunno

As for the lights, im afraid there is no way of fixing it now. The left leg which the wires ran through has been re-attached and i really should have checked this before hand. Only other way? I'd have to cut through the helmet and get to the wires that way maybe? It isnt worth it for me...the arc reactor is seriously bright! I forgot how bright it was from the one i already have...it kinda sucks that the lights in the eyes dont work but for the time being, once i've completely repaired him then he'll just be on display until i decide his future...:wink1:

:exactly: Thanks Jay! :hi5: Thats what i thought. I was itching to get to work on this right away! Until i got the green light from the seller that he was going to refund me aswell as allow me to keep it with me then i couldnt really do much. At this point i would have taken a partial refund on it so it really was a pleasant surprise.

I thrive on jobs like these. Not knowing if it will turn out right? Getting the amazing feeling that you've repaired a $2k statue with limited skills...sometimes i surprise myself. I'm sure it wont be perfect but i'll give it a damn good go!

Yea, a little disheartened that i dont have all the lights working. For me, Iron Man has to have light up features :( Arc reactor is proper blinding!!! Not sure what wattage of LED is in there but its bright enough to light a living room no problem! :lol

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

Looks great ... nice job!!!! Soon you have a hall of armor in 1/2 scale...:)

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

So it's not made from a more plastic like material then like I thought it would be. Is it heavy?

You did a great repair job on it dude! Looked great. Are the cracks visible?

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

So this will be a MK II?

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

if you messed up the colors, just give us a pink IM.

Re: RobertoBagg10's Display Thread *LSF UPDATE...GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, MORE GOOD NEWS!

Impressive. You would never know from the pics that IM showed up with severed limbs. Nice work on the repair. It doesn't even look like he needs a paint app with Your pics. What are your plans for the custom work?

Thanks Atom :hi5: Hall of Armour you say...that's the plan! :yess:

Thanks Eam, it is very weighty indeed...although like I mentioned earlier, the cast appears to be injection moulded as it's not 100% solid...:dunno

The cracks are indeed visible and is basically the reason why I have to sand down all the areas prior to adding the primer. This pic which I've zoomed in to the right leg area will show you where the crack line is

Pink :horror then I will give it to my daughter for Christmas :rotfl

Thanks James :hi5: still not sure abt the future of this LSF. I already have the MKII and MKIII so more than likely will complete the repair of this one and have it on display for a while. Waiting for the release of the MKVII LSF from Sideshow and then will probably sell this MKIII to help raise funds for it :)
