Hey everyone! As promised, here is my final ( but not so final) custom G1 Megatron update...why not so final? Well a few days ago the light up feature in the eyes completely stopped working
typical as it had been working on all the other occasions I switched it on since I received it and when it comes to finally showing the completed statue - DOH!
So I've contacted the guys at Infinity Creative Designs, who built the Megatron for me, and they have kindly agreed to send a new replacement Head and Torso (as they come as one piece) and hopefully then it’ll be restored to a complete Megatron with light up eyes
Luckily, I managed to take a pic of Megs when the lights were working and like with most statues that are based on robots, having a light feature certainly helps brings the whole thing to life...
Thankfully, the light up feature in Megatrons arm cannon works beautifully and it looks amazing
(as you'll see from some of the pics below) However, what you cant see from the pics is the tone of purple colour that comes from the light...it really is a great touch by the guys at Infinity Creative Design.
So as you know, this guy is pretty massive! He's without any question of a doubt, the biggest collectible in my collection so far. He towers over all of my other half scale statues and he really is quite the sight
I've always wanted to own my very own G1 Transformer statues and to have both my favourite characters from the 80's cartoon in such an incredibly huge scale is just a great feeling! As you can imagine, statues of this size do take up a lot of space and so due to this reason I cannot display these guys alongside each other so Megatron and Optimus are on displaying, squaring up to each other but at opposite ends of the room
then again, with Prime measuring just over 42 inches tall and Megatron a staggering 50+ inches, they probably would look out of place side by side on display...especially as Prime is in a bent over running styled pose (hence the massive height difference) and Megatron is standing tall in all his glory!
For those who are unfamiliar with these custom G1 pieces, they come as standard in a Battle Damaged condition (as per instructed by the guy commissioning these awesome pieces) however, I wanted mine to have more of animated feeling going on to it, not necessarily 100% accurate to the cartoons but something that is more personal to me and how I'd like my G1 collectibles to look, and that was the idea I had in mind when I received my custom Optimus Prime statue as you can see from my before and after pic
and so the same idea was implemented for my Megatron aswell...and now that its complete, I have to say, I'm actually liking him more than I do my Prime
So I pretty much had to repaint the entire statue (including the base) as the whole statue arrived in a pretty bad state (due to customs opening the box once it had landed in the UK) they had repackaged it so poorly that parts of the statue were placed back in the box without being wrapped up in the protective Styrofoam sheets that were originally used when it was sent out and because of this, my statue had incurred scratches, paint chips and in some cases...breakages
so its pretty much taken nearly 2 months or so to get him all prestine again...and then the lights in the eyes stop working!!!
The base was pretty straight forward to repaint...the scene of the whole pose is based on a scene from the G1 Transformers movie where you see Megatron running riot against the autobots and crushing Ironhide with his giant foot! Ironhide has been done pretty well with his torso split in two and cables and wires are on show....Ironhide's head is also disconnected from his body and for good measure I also added some spare wheels to give it a more dioramic look. The other feature, which turned out to be the Exclusive part on this statue (with the first 10 orders) all receiving a severed Bumblebee Head which was to be placed in the clutches of Megatrons left hand!
From what I've heard, I believe that there is a G1 Grimlock and possibly another G1 Autobot in the making but there's no way in hell that I'd be able to aqueeze another of these customs in...
plus its nice to stop with these two main characters as i'll also be receiving my Optimus Prime and Megatron Movie statues from Prime 1 at the beginning of next year
plus I recently pre ordered the G1 Optimus Prime 1/6 Figure from Hot Toys which incredibly sold out within 24 hours
but I'm secretly hoping that they also release a Megatron aswell later down the line
So here he is guys, hope you enjoy the pics and as ever thanks so much for looking and for all your great feedback
As for next update, well i’ll be hopefully back to my number 1 love in my life in regards to collectibles...Iron Man! My most eagerly awaited piece of 2014, the Sideshow Iron Man MKVII LSF, has been confirmed to ship its way to London tomorrow!!
so i’m praying that by the end of the week it should be with me inhand
