Well, the reviews are starting to pour in. They almost seem reluctantly positive. :lol It's all "good movie, solid cast, better than Total Recall" but there's the whole "isn't 1987" sentiment attached to it.

For me, it's going to be hard to separate my brain from thinking about the original as I watch it. Especially when I'll be seeing it in theaters alongside the reboot and know it by heart. Atleast it doesn't sound like this remake is a complete POS though, I'm actually looking forward to the double feature next month. Supposedly there's something special in the credits (not a scene).

"Robocop, I want to talk to you about something called the Avengers initiative . . . "

"Robocop, I want to talk to you about something called the Avengers initiative . . . "

Now that is some funny ****.

Just reading the Robocop name before that sentence is lol.

Or an apology from the director for wasting 2hrs of your life. :lol

I have a feeling he will owe me less of an apology than the Directors of TDKR/MOS. :lol

I hope the after-credits stuff involves Peter Weller, a hairpiece, and 60-something year old Weller starring in the Buckaroo Banzai remake.

:rotfl
Again, even Green Elephant is better then Total Disastrecall.
Making a positive point out of such stupidity shows more than enough about those reviews.

Judging by the responses in this thread, this film could be pure gold and it still wouldn't make a difference. Tough crowd. :lol

There's a brand new interview up with Jose Padilha, the director, and he does seem know his stuff. None of what he says seems forced or scripted. He has nothing but praise for Verhoeven and the original film (they're not going to make fun of it in the film). The way he talks about the philosophy, irony, and themes of the original seems much more genuine than someone that would just be saying that stuff just to promote it. There's a scene that everyone is talking about where
"Rubber Cop" is put up on that table and is shown what is left of his body that I guess is sad and gut wrenching.

Good or bad, it's not going to take away from the original. The first was/is a classic and one of my favorite films. I just find it odd how jaded and ugly people are being about this remake that spins the story in a different light. I thought the recent Dredd was going to suck *****, if you look back in the thread, I think I'm knocking it for the "3D" in it's title alone. After I saw it though, I loved it. I guess I just don't get predetermined hate, even from the folks that feel "it shouldn't be made". If anything, atleast this movie makes this year a Robocop year and lets the original bask in the limelight with new stuff, especially merchandising.

Nothing can replace this,

But if there's something that can compliment it, get a few more people talking about it that otherwise wouldn't. If it's atleast better than 2 and 3, I don't see how anyone could be upset about it.

I hope its better than Robo's 2 and 3. I know Robo 2 had Weller and that cool Cain fight, but otherwise it was crap. The original was the only truly great Robo film. If this one comes along and is at least good (though the training clip had me worried) well, great.
