Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Any franchise can over-extend its welcome. Too much Star Wars is as sickening as too much Marvel or Bond or LOTR or Pirates or Matrix or Back to the Future or Die Hard or Terminator or Alien or any other franchise. Even genres get tired and have to retire for a bit. Actors too.

I agree but for me SW is not there yet.

I need the new movies not because I want to recapture my OT childhood, I need them to make me forget about the PT lol.

Regarding the MCU for me there is an ending, it's called Avengers Infinty War.

I'll be perfectly happy with the main story line ending there.

Anything after that is Indiana Jones 5.

Marvel and DC In cinema will go on forever or until Hollywood says forget it because comic books will never die :lecture

HP franchise started off entertaining but by the 5th movie the general appeal died out

Not saying that SW will get this way, but Disney might over saturate the market and take the magic out of the SW films with this new yearly film plan

Well, Marvel has almost unlimited characters they can introduce on film for years to come and keep making films. They also have the option to reboot and reintroduce characters either as part of a story given the nature of marvel comics and things like magic or a multiverse or they can simply do a reboot that has nothing to do with the MCU storyline and continuity.

DC can and will always reboot Batman and Superman, assuming they don't take more chances using other character or starting new franchises.

Harry Potter can always come back, given how young the cast was and the fact that new generations are reading those books and growing up watching those films on tv. I predict the original cast will come back, and there will be a whole new series of Harry Potter films. It's going to be big.

SW is trying to reboot certain characters while keeping the continuity intact with the new prequels and it seems like it might work. At some point, the main episode films will move on completely from the original storyline and characters, so we'll see how popular Rey and Finn can be without the OG cast...unless they keep showing up as ghosts.

I'm quite certain by the time Episode 9 comes out, I will have had more than my fair share of the Star Wars universe.

Plus, as people grow weary and stop attending, the films do less boxoffice and then the budgets get smaller and then you start getting the cheap/lazy movies that truly scream money-grab without any real thought or care, given to 4th tier directors who only want a paycheck. The likelihood of a good Star Wars movie coming out of that scenario is even more unlikely than the current formula-driven new-market-mentality Disney-machine.

I'm amazed that Bond films are still being funded, must be tradition because I feel that franchise died way back when Pierce was Bond despite what Craig is doing now :lecture

No offense to Disney's SW goal but the beauty of comic books is that there will always be interest, no matter what the age a person is. Comic books and movies aren't going anywhere.

You really think Marvel is gonna pack it up after Infinity War?

:D

:cuckoo: that's like saying Santa Claus will never be part of Xmas ever again

When Avengers IW ends, there will be a Defenders film or a chain of Spidey films, FF, X-men will be retooled and not just in the Fassbender/Lawerence era. I see Feige planning to get his hands on a X-men revamp.

C'mon nobody can't say to me that Hollywood isn't planning a Marvel vs DC cinematic series by the next decade

The next generation will not like Marvel the way you all do.

They'll be breast-fed on Marvel and think its baby-stuff by the time they're in high school.

Oh Star Wars is going to get oversaturated in the next ten years just as Marvel has and DC wants to be and Harry Potter is starting round 2.

Marvel seems to have the right directions as there are more hits then misses and I have enjoyed most of their movies. I could not believe I actually enjoyed Doctor Strange. Now putting them all into one big Infinity movie will be a huge task but they did it with the first Avengers so hopefully they can do it again.

If you look at the missed franchises out there: Terminator; Alien/Predators, I am still willing to give Disney/Lucasfilm a chance with this new movie and the next ones. As expected, if they turn out to be DC fiascos, then I just will wait till they come out on video. But really there is nothing else out there to go see, so I am ready for Rogue One!

Yeah I see it too.

It's gonna happen in our lifetime, that's for sure.

And it's probably gonna be all thanks to this guy...

If they can make Alien vs Predator, then yes.

Well DC is far behind so don't expect it for another three or four years.

Maybe after WW, Flash, JL and one solo Batfleck film but there is still too many MCU films already :lecture
