Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I'll say this though if anything "corporation" related is going to be "the thing" that stops a person from enjoying any movie then you are simply in the wrong country....really in the wrong planet at this point lol.

Every facet of our lives is now attached to a marketing department, gimmick, promotional partner or focus group and that's just on the legal side of things!

My freaking general contractor sent me a questionaire if I would be interested in Star Wars themed cabinets and flooring.

Welcome to capitalism, nice to meet you.

Lucas didn't create SW because he wanted to give a gift to humanity, he wanted what everyone else desires in this world, to be super wealthy.

Corporations trying to sell you stuff is now part of the core fabric of every nation from entertainment to food to medicine to clothes and everything else that fits between a and z.

Military freaking recruitment has a huge marketing department on Madison avenue.

I am surrounded by fortune 500 companies because we as humans decided a very long time ago that money would be what keeps us alive but we also get to decide how we spend the so called disposable part of our income.

So to hate on Disney because they are trying to shove Star Wars into every cell of your existence, well that's just who and what we are now as human beings, it is human nature to do just that and it is nothing remotely new.

They're doing no different than what Lucas, Kurosawa, Cameron or those idiots that created Cannibal Campout did (one of those failed miserably).

Disney is not evil, Disney is just you and me.

So just go do what you were meant to do from the second you were born, go watch RO lol.

Sell Mortimer, Sell!

Agreed.

I didn't intentionally type "Endor the day", I like it and will take credit for it.

Damn, you had me cracking up with that. I thought it was pretty original. Shouldn't have said you did it by accident!

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Problem is that disney is supposed to cater to everyone, but they dont care about inflation they just care about their prices. None of their current movies drop below 20.00 on itunes and never ever have i seen a sale on a disney movie. Their park prices are getting half way there were is close to 200 when six years they didnt go higher than a 100, not to mention how much merch pricing like SW and princess stuff surges above retail, its ok to make money, but they go over board since people will pay it, but they push it super close. I had this crazy idea of buying every disney movie but once realized that the constant pricing is flatlined for all of them no matter how old it is i stopped. Like if i wanted to buy each mickey mouse club house volumes, they would have run me up like 19.99 per vol for only like 8 episodes worth 2.99 each.

I hate disney and more so since my disney rewards points expired, i had like 8,000 saving it up for something decent, but when i tried getting the rogue one posters all my points on my account were "expired". Screw disney.

Vudu has a lot of Disney movies on sale for $14.99 right now, so I'd blame iTunes.

End result- Rogue One is shallow manipulative crap and even if you know it you are going to say "It's AWESOME! It's Star Wars!!"
I'll be right there with you in line on Day one.....:lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I'll say it's a Star Wars flick because it's in the title and nothing in the trailers make me feel it isn't Star Warish.....whether it's good or not will come from actually watching the film. :)

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

You know what it is rush, i'm just refusing to allow negativity to permeate every decision i'm going to make on what to enjoy, that just becomes too exhausting and draining.

Can my family survive without all the mindless entertainment crap we share with each other day in day out, of course we can.

But who cares, if my need for stupid stuff keeps people employed then my dumb needs served a greater purpose than just my little circle of life.

I like what I like, i'm frugal on certain things and go bat **** crazy on other things, even though my brain is being constantly assaulted by ads I already know what i'm letting into my life.

Believe it or not I think geeks have a great gift for quickly filtering out stuff that does not matter to them.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Yeah this is very Star Warsish, but making a new Star Wars movie every year loses the franchises specialness. Even though the prequels were not great it still felt good to sit in a theatre once every 3 years and hear that 20th Century fox opening and see it on a big screen. Having it every year is like watching a new season of a tv show.

hunh,, the PT are SW by the creator himself and they suck.

I only really love ANH/ESB and like ROTJ/TFA.

So that's not true, if RO sucks i'll be here saying exactly that.

Then i'll change my mind and like it lol.

I may be in the minority but I'm ok with yearly releases. As a kid waiting three years between films then almost twenty until it came back again was looooooong. I'm ready for some burn out :lol

The LOTR trilogy were released only 1 year apart from each other and are considered masterpiecs, none of the specialness was lost doing it that way.

To be fair, the LOTR was a trilogy with a beginning , a middle, and ending. The new SW cinematic universe is following the Marvel formula, and there's no clear end in sight. Wait until they start releasing 2 films per year. Marvel is graduating to 3 films per year already.

Marvel and DC In cinema will go on forever or until Hollywood says forget it because comic books will never die :lecture

HP franchise started off entertaining but by the 5th movie the general appeal died out

Not saying that SW will get this way, but Disney might over saturate the market and take the magic out of the SW films with this new yearly film plan

Too be fair, I have no illusions these films will be "special". Maybe like Marvel they'll have a few good ones mixed in among the average ones. I'm a lot older now than when I first watched the OT.......the kid feeling that continues to this day is a result of those films and that feeling won't be replicated. I'm just excited to continue down the journey I started 40 yrs ago. Simple as that.....no illusions....crazy expectations....just enjoying the ride

I'll be there with my family on Saturday, if it's a turd, I'll call it a turd. I might be more forgiving of Star Wars, but I'm not blind. I'm pretty critical of all but ANH and ESB, I still enjoy ROTJ and TFA, but I o see the flaws, especially with Jedi.

There is Some good in TPM and ROTS, but AOTC is a complete loss.

I'm just excited they can be a part of my children's childhood. If they like, that's good enough or me, if I like them, that's all I could hope for.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

What is Disney planning anyway..does anyone have a complete list of the upcoming SW films

All I know is RO, Han Solo, EP VIII and IX :dunno

My kids pretty much grown....but they go along for dad's crazy passions. I'll take it because as you said, I'm sharing something I enjoy with those I care about. That's why agenda, formula's etc. don't matter from my perspective. Just good, fun with the fam.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Any franchise can over-extend its welcome. Too much Star Wars is as sickening as too much Marvel or Bond or LOTR or Pirates or Matrix or Back to the Future or Die Hard or Terminator or Alien or any other franchise. Even genres get tired and have to retire for a bit. Actors too.

I'm quite certain by the time Episode 9 comes out, I will have had more than my fair share of the Star Wars universe.

Plus, as people grow weary and stop attending, the films do less boxoffice and then the budgets get smaller and then you start getting the cheap/lazy movies that truly scream money-grab without any real thought or care, given to 4th tier directors who only want a paycheck. The likelihood of a good Star Wars movie coming out of that scenario is even more unlikely than the current formula-driven new-market-mentality Disney-machine.
