Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Yep figures are jamming up the shelves here- last year this time TFA stuff was near sold out. The magic bottle is emptied as far as pent up demand...

Episode VIII will change that, but yes, everyone that i know like store managers at the disney, lego and toys r us i frequent tell me with TFA the lines were 5 times longer. Crazy thing is with tickets if they sold out for rogue one within 20 minutes, imagine next year. I dont know about you guys but now all my movie theaters in my city have reserved seating which does us no good if we use fandango, movie tickets.com or alamo drafthouse and worse santikos since their websites crash all the time.

Even worse is the drafthous since they always give away mondo goodies from birth.death. Movies site for free

Things certainly got lighter. Looks better for it though.

Star Wars is a different animal, but I do think it can suffer if it takes itself too seriously.

That is a step in the right direction.

Part of what makes movies like BvS so intolerable is the lack of humor and lightness; the pretense that it is so important it must be oppressively dramatic.

I dont like movies to be dumbed down and have jokes every ten seconds, i hate marvel and disney for doing it, thats just me though.

It can be overdone. I didn't like Age of Ultron for a lot of reasons, one of them being the forced, constant quips.

Balance in all things. ;)

EXACTLY, marvel over does it a lot and thats the main problem now, audiences expect it every time they see a movie to the point that when DC tries to be different it backfires on them since everyone says they are seriously dark. Did i laugh when i watched ANH? Not a single bit, different audiences and tastes, honestly the only franchise that has survived with time is the James Bond flicks, those withstand the test of time just with action.

Bond? Are you really saying that there is no humor in Bond? Look at all of the Roger Moore films they were full of stupid humor waaay more than the Marvel movies. I think the worst was when he swung through the trees yelling like Tarzan.

That's you. There's tons of humor in ANH. Ever watch it in a theatrical release ... or not alone?

It doesn't have to be every 10 seconds to have some lightness. Funny doesn't equate to dumbed down. To me, and many others, things like BvS are preposterous because of their faux dramatic sensibility for comic book characters in capes and tights.

And yeah, if you think Bond has no humor you must only have watched the Craig Bonds.

Too much of any one thing is bad though. I agree with that.

The other side being, I think the humour in Civil War was well done.

As for Bond, even the Craig films have humour.

Hence my remark about balance.

I guess you weren't reading DC Comics in the late 80s and early 90s? Death in the Family, Exile of Superman, Knightfall, Doomsday, etc....Batman was too haunted by his murdered teenage sidekick to make quips all the time. Superman had a mental breakdown over killing Zod so he exiled himself to space so he wouldn't hurt anyone else.

I'm not arguing that these comics were the greatest of all time or anything, but they're the ones I grew up with, so they're the ones that carry the most weight with ME.

I loved BvS cause it felt to me like seeing a big screen version of the very specific era of comics I loved reading as a kid. Obviously the majority of moviegoers felt differently, but I personally really appreciated what Snyder was doing.

Regardless of the outcome ill still watch, im a movie goer that likes movies such as hobo with a shotgun to dorm daze 2, ill watch anything, honestly im a huge fan of the first blade, the truly excellent film that managed to balanced everything out. I dont have any expectations for rogue one ofher than some massive and truly awesome imax shots of the OT, but lets hope it turns out for the best, we all know how everyone also heard positive vibes from BVS and look out it turned out.

No.

Superman, Batman, etc, I have just never been able to take seriously. The dark gloom that surrounded the Miller Batman was interesting for its time and a complete one-eighty from the nonsense of the Adam West Batman, so it had a cool factor to me. But that "weight" was over-extended to the comic book world.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

All I can say is the dirty stormtrooper looks cool. That's all I see.

But the fact that now I know Jyn is "rescued" already told me too much of the story.
