That's one of things I liked best about Rogue One -- it didn't pander to the kiddies.

To OT fanboys and global markets, a big yes. But not to kiddies for a change.

Where are the Tarkin scenes on the net?

I have to say the 2nd time around he actually looked much better. A little spongey in the very first scene -- which was just too long to sustain -- but in all the other shorter scenes he looked great. And the acting was spot on. I think I am more impressed by him than Vader actually. He held up to what I would expect Tarkin to act like and the language he would use. Vader did great "badassery" but looked wonky doing it. And him at home in the tub and then greeting Krennic for seemingly no reason but to give a warning was kind of... forced. **cough**

Agreed. I've read it many times (agree myself) this is the SW I've been wanting for years.

I am a little confused to the whole question of how Vader turned to the light....it was very clear back when I saw it as a kid......where is the question?

It always appeared to me that Vader was totally under the Emperors influence. He never once was trying to KILL Luke. He was bringing him to the Emporer, as the Emperor told him to. "You will bring him before me" " "He will come to me??? "

Vader tells Luke they should join and kill the Emperor... Because he knows Luke will kill the Emperor as he is more powerful than him.

If anything , LUKE tries to really kill Vader! Vader is toying with him trying to break him mentally down.

When Vader realizes Luke is not going to fall to the Dark, after he is beaten down so quickly, he knows that Luke can kill the Emperor and this is his chance to escape the Emperors power over him. I also felt the only reason Vader even attempts it is because Palpatine is distracted usimg all his power to subdue Luke.

All of this before the PT even came along.

Its even more clear that Palpy has a force of will over Anakin by telling him what he wants to hear. I always viewed Mace's death as a moment where Palpatine got considerably stronger because Anakin gave in and attacked Mace . This joining up with Palpatine, created a link between them where Palpatine is the main beneficiary of the pair. And his influence over Anakin was enhanced.

Only thing that got through the control was him watching his son be tortured to death.

Wedge left with Bail Organa, lol, just saw it a third time and heard him say "Antilles" is everything ready lol.

Watched this movie for the third time around with my twin boys who know star wars just by name but not that deep into the methos since they are only three and a half, anyways spent 85% of the movie policing them up since they got distracted easily until the last 30 minutes of the movie where they just stuck to their seats without moving or flinching in awe at what they just witnessed, they even waved goodbye to the theater "bye star wars, see you next time" as we left. good times.

Kinda surprised by the $150m this made (all the news reports are saying it's $100m less than TFA.) I really thought this was going to be closer to TFA, like at least over $200m. This is more in line with the first Hunger Games or Twilight a few years ago. Still massive - but this is SW so I want a $1B opening weekend.:lol

Everyone is kind of saying the expectations were lower because it's not a "mainline" story that doesn't have the likes of Han and Chewy (and Luke/Leia cameos) but this movie has the long-awaited return of the #1 movie villain Vader (and in actual action) and the Death Star, as well as being in the exact same era as ANH/OT (so all the cool OT stuff as it was in the OT, not TFA-esque tweaked versions) so in some ways - to me at least - as appealing as the mainline stories.

I also wonder how much of that $150m was repeat viewings? 1/3? 1/2? SW movies seem to trade heavily on people going back twice or three times over opening weekend.

I have a feeling it's second weekend drop-off will be less than most films thanks to positive word of mouth.

I thought digital Tarkin was impressive. Light years better than digital Jeff Bridges from Tron Legacy.

Leia needed more work. Her cameo looks great when she first turns around and falls apart when she speaks. I hope they tweak this shot a bit for the blu ray.

Re: Rogue one: Spoilers confirmed! You are warned do no read these are real

Isn't Rogue one 10 years after Episode III?

Lol, ten? So Leia is ten on ANH? Now I feel weird about thinking she is hot.

RO takes place about 17 years post ROTS.

I am in the deep south so .....no....
17 is marriage and kids age here...besides I was talking about the younger me. I am WAY to old for anyone below 30.

Another point, I have been polling non SW fans asking who was a cgi and who was not. They all knew Leia was , only because they know her from the originals.

NOT a SINGLE PERSON, knew Cushing was dead and Tarkin was Cgi.....not one.

My sample is still small, only about ten people, but I would say it holds up in the general population.

Remember we are talking about people who need to ask when this movie takes place......

I think Leia looks a bit off....but not cause she looks cgi, she just does not look like Leia. Too angular and not a soft enough face.
