Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

The only thing we've seen from the this movie so far that I don't like is Forest Whitaker. He looks/sounds terrible and, at best, will take me completely out of the film if the trailer is any indication. I really hope his part is very small.

Forest, ninja guy and that Maori looking guy look like they are in the wrong movie. A TV sci-fi movie.
A bad episode of Battlestar or something. Casting, wardrobe, make-up, design, just cheesy as ****.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I don't know, they kinda remind me of Kanjiklub, so that's Star Wars. :lol Also, Samurai are cool in ANYTHING. ;)

Whitaker does look awful, though. He looks and sounds like something right out of a cheesy 80s fantasy film, like KRULL.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I didn't think Kanjiklub were right either. :lol

Krull was a classic you philistine. (A classic something, not sure what).

Forrest Whitaker is the man. Ghost Dog, Bird, the Crying Game, Last King of Scotland. He's one of the real saving graces of the trailer, if you ask me. A lot of the rest does look like a fan film.

Oh, he's a fine actor. He just looks and sounds WRONG for this (at least, so far). Also, because he's Forest frickin' Whitaker he pulls me right out.

Yes, I think Forest will be a highpoint in the movie, as he is in most of his movies.

I wonder if this also has anything to do with the fact that JJ Abrams has been on the set of EPISODE 8 a lot.

Frankly, Disney scares me. They are absolutely 100% commerce over art.

Some folks probably thought the same with Alec Guinness of Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia starring in the first film (though he was also in the Ladykillers and Murder by Death before that :lol ).

Classy.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

RO has not met the "High Bar set by The Force Awakens". :lol

should tell you so much, the bar is set so low, yet this guy might not have been able to even reach it lol.

They have "formulas" and "rules". Must have been too dark and not happy enough to fit their mold. They meddle so much in these- yes JJ probably is guiding Rian on Ep VIII.
I have great hopes for RO- however my fear is they tone down Vader and put more family friendly feel good stuff in there.

I care IF it's true that Disney is stepping in to make the film less gritty and "safer". When it comes to the filmmaker vs studio on vision over a film, I will side with the filmmaker 99.9% of the time, because they are the artist.

And again, Kennedy and Edwards deserve the benefit of the doubt here.

Really hoping these rumors are blown a tad out of proportion. Pick up shoots aren't the problem... Unless the reason behind them is the studio forcing a huge overhaul and re-shaping of the film.

Why is everyone assuming the reshoots are being done because it was dark? what if they are being done because the movie doesnt have enough action or is boring?

Godzilla and Monsters were not that dark but they Sure were boring and long and had too much talking. If This movie was being made the way Godzilla was, we would have 2 hours of meetings and people talking to each other and maybe 15 minutes of action, so are we really sure to assume the reshoots have to do with dark and gritty? What if it is anticlimactic

Im just saying, Monsters was not dark at all, it was even more boring than Godzilla, 2 hours of a couple walking around. a couple of minutes of monsters in it.

But Edwards doesn't have much of a track record, does he? Monsters and Godzilla? Neither critical darlings. Do we even know that Kennedy isn't part of the chorus asking for these reshoots?

im not even sure why Disney picked him.

Again IF the gist of these reports is true, then I would have to assume she isn't as she was on set almost the entire time and would have known what's up with the film all the way through. The rumors are that Disney suits saw a cut of the film and got scared. Probably because it's too dark and gritty for them to sell a bunch of vinylmation toys in their god damned theme parks.

well, Disney has some scary rides, Dinosaur is a little intense for a Disney ride. Everest is fast and scary, I mean, Tower of Terror...... dont know if i even need to explain that one. (they even have ALIEN animatronics in the movie ride...)
You dont really think everything is just baby rides with Mickey in it do you? :lol

I have a feeling the movie was just anticlimactic or dull or boring.

Yeah, I would find it hard to believe that they would put a Star Wars film through test screenings, everything would get leaked in a day.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Why would they add a young Solo? This is after Jedi.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

The real story lies somewhere in the middle.

With this trend in deaging actors in MCU movies can you imagine Harrison Ford making a cameo with how he looked in 1977. :thud:

Would I even want to see Han's character before ANH is the question.

Or maybe its a deaged Lando. :lol

I'm sure the cameo being discussed is none other than Vader.

This is set before ANH. Vader is in his prime during this era. I don't think shoehorning Solo into this is a wise move if that's the case.
