Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Well since this is before ANH, i guess this Vader is considered PT.

This is set before ANH. Vader is in his prime during this era. I don't think shoehorning Solo into this is a wise move if that's the case.

oh, well solo still isnt young. :lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

The real story lies somewhere in the middle.

With this trend in deaging actors in MCU movies can you imagine Harrison Ford making a cameo with how he looked in 1977. :thud:

Would I even want to see Han's character before ANH is the question.

Or maybe its a deaged Lando. :lol

I'm sure the cameo being discussed is none other than Vader.

I was under the impression that Vader was always in it, not a last minute addition.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Pretty sure all the Vader suggestions are just conjecture at this point. It would make sense from a marketing/merchandise standpoint, and will make even more geeks go to the movies in droves. And Disney is VERY concerned with these things. So it seems like a no brainer. Boba Fett and Han Solo, too. Hell, Luke, Leia, Obi Wan, Yoda, R2 and 3PO. . .not sure why they would stop with Vader and Boba :lol

I don't know if its ever been confirmed that Vader has a substantial role in this, has it?

Not confirmed, but he HAS been there all along. In fact, they've gone to efforts to make the suit look like the one from ANH (thank God).

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

They should just leave this film be it's own thing. There is no way it can tonally match or join to ANH. It wasn't conceived like that and certainly Edwards is not the director to match that style.

So they are lightening and adding fun? Probably Disney speak for making it less dull (Like Godzilla and Monsters). Godzilla cut had the "feel of a war movie too" a really ****ing boring one.

Anyway I thought it already had comedy and levity? Why else does Forest Whitaker look and act like that?
:lol

" HOLLYWOOD REPORTER:
Executives felt it was tonally off with what a “classic” 'Star Wars' movie should feel like.
Star Wars stand-alone movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will undergo several weeks’ worth of additional shooting, sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Much of the cast and director Gareth Edwards will regroup in mid-June for another round of shooting. The move is happening after execs screened the film and felt it was tonally off with what a “classic” Star Wars movie should feel like. The pic has not yet been tested before audiences, but one source describes the cut as having the feel of a war movie.

The goal of the reshoots will be to lighten the mood, bring some levity into the story and restore a sense of fun to the adventure.

Rogue One focuses on the fabled mission hinted at in Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, that of a group of rebels stealing the plans to the Death Star. The plans later end up in the hands of Princess Leia, who transfers them to R2-D2.

“This is the closest thing to a prequel ever,” a source tells THR. “This takes place just before A New Hope and leads up to the 10 minutes before that classic film begins. You have to match the tone!”

Not confirmed, but he HAS been there all along. In fact, they've gone to efforts to make the suit look like the one from ANH (thank God).

Yeah, they have exactly recreated the ANH helmet, widows peak, inaccuracies and asymmetry et al. Superb!

If that's true, it feeling like a war movie sounds like a good thing. I look at this as a standalone film, to me it doesn't need to match the others in tone. Seems like the subject matter might lend itself to a more serious tone.

I'm ok with a war movie as long as its not boring, I don't know if it necessarily has to match the tone of ANH.

I will always remember the tone of the original as having no tone, it just broke new ground.

It was awe inspiring, crazy, fresh, thrilling, quirky, cute, alive.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I already said this movie was going to be bad and now am proven right.... it was so bad they need reshoots :lol

They should have just made a Kenobi Trilogy. Have them spaced before 8, before 9, after 9. Then start on other films that don't involve Han, Leia, or Luke.

Yeah, it's leading up to the original film, but it's supposedly a much darker story, right? That was my understanding from the get-go, and the impression I had from the early shots of the cast. That this was more of a movie about an insurgent attack, where lots of the good guys don't make it out alive. That's different from Star Wars, in some pretty major ways.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Idk, ANH starts with a ship being over run by a larger military threat, soldiers being murdered in a military assault, a soldier being interrogated and choked to death and the kidnapping of a rebel leader politician, and that's just in the first 15 minutes.

RO direction makes sense to me.

Disney just care about the $$$.
If it's got integrity as well then that's a happy coincidence.

Until somebody at Disney or Lucasfilm either officially states that as true or (in the very least) somebody in the know is willing to come forward and put their name and reputation on the line to confirm it, it's all rumor.

Reshoots are nothing new in big budget movies, nowadays I'd say it is quite common, just most films aren't put under the Internet microscope like Star Wars is.
