Huh? Why? I was not told dammit!

I asked my 7 year old son if he wanted me to rent the new Beauty and the Beast and he said that since my ex took his sister to see it on the big screen he wished he could see it that way too. Well it turns out it's still playing in second run theaters in my area so I said why not and we just got back from it. Big spectacle, musical numbers, love story and all that. When we walked out of the theater and got in the car we both buckled in and he goes:

"Dad?"

"Yeah?"

"What would happen if the Death Star ran out of those crystals? Would it stop being able to fire the laser?"

I'm like huh, what, I guess we're moving on from Beauty and the Beast. :lol

So I asked him what he thought and he said "I think it uses half a crystal to blow up a city and a full crystal to blow up a planet. But it probably has like thousands of crystals."

And off we drove never once mentioning the movie we just watched, lol. :yess:

You're raising him right Khev! :duff

I bought BATB and kind of regret it, it was nowhere near as good as the animated version, and really brought little new to the table.

I'm leaning toward buying it. Did you order the 2D/3D combo from overseas? I saw it 2D on the big screen but heard the 3D was pretty spectacular. I'll post a more thorough review in it's own thread.

I take it he loved BatB? It had its moments but it was no Pete's Dragon remake.

im not surprised that Khev's boy didn't like it because it is not really a movie for boys, I can see why he wouldn't like it but the movie should win an oscar for how good it was in general.

it fixed everything that was wrong with the animated version and it added a lot more character development and a lot more plot to the story. it explained a lot of stuff that the animated didnt explain and it added stuff like what happened to Belle's mom and why the prince really did take the father (the rose he stole, being a thief)
the stuff about the mom was a Huge improvement

they definitely expanded some minor characters like the father and the book keeper guy. they explained it better why Belle stayed, they showed that Gaston DID believe the father at first and went to look for belle in the forest, the town was expanded upon,
Beast was not angry at Belle for eating alone when the plates sing (that was a big fix)
Even the furniture's personalities were expanded upon like the relationship between the piano and the dresser.

it was definitely much better than the cartoon.

No, I went back and forth over whether I should get the Blu or wait for 3D. I won't buy kids movies now without Digital Copy (international edition),as it's a real life saver when visiting friends or relatives.

I posted a longer than usual review some time ago. I do agree that where the film is most enjoyable is when it treads new ground.

It might just be comparison shock, I will watch it again in the near future and see if my opinion changes.

Yeah, now that I already know what is different in the live-action BatB I wonder if those changes will bug me less or if they'll always annoy me on account of being inferior to the cartoon.

Anyway, back to RO. My son has been ill the past two days (basically a stomach flu but nothing too serious) so yesterday he was mostly chillin' on the floor in front of the TV. He asked if he could watch RO again so of course I popped it in and caught bits and pieces of it while seeing to him and other chores around the house.

Man I love all the tide turns in that final battle. When the shield gate closes you always think "crap, if only a few more X-Wings made it through" but if you take in the entirety of the battle that black pilot in Blue Squadron who has to pull up and miss the shield by mere inches ends up being the guy who takes out the shield generator on that one Star Destroyer that Gold Squadron lights up with ion blasts which then allows the Hammerhead Corvette to push it into the other Destroyer and take out the entire shield gate! What would have been the butterfly effect if the Imperials had closed the gate two seconds later and allowed that one pilot through?

Also Blue Leader and one other X-Wing tried to take out the Death Trooper dropship head on but just couldn't get through their TIE Striker escort. Imagine how things would have gone had the Death Troopers not been allowed to land. Or that one Shoretrooper officer who threw the grenade into Bodhi's ship just five seconds after Bodhi was able to brief Admiral Raddus on the situation. That one Shoretrooper could have literally been the savior of the entire Empire had he been able to chuck the grenade just a few seconds earlier. I freaking love that that were able to construct this organic feeling battle of badasses on both sides that were making clutch maneuvers left and right as more and more of the strategies for both teams were going sideways.
