The only time Vegeta is truly superior to Goku is during the saiyan saga. Otherwise Goku has always been one step ahead of Vegeta. In some cases various steps ahead. Who did goku rely on to defeat frieza? And during the Cell saga Vegeta couldnt even lay a finger on perfect Cell. Yeah goku relies on others for the spirit bomb but because he's the only damn person with the ability for it. Otherwise freaking oolong would be saving everyone.

I agree with you goku has always been one step ahead. The only time he truly beat him was the saiyan saga. When goku arrived on namek he made burter and jeice look like bitches. Vegeta was no where near them. After namek vegeta kept asking himself how goku did it. After hyperbolic time chamber vegeta was no match for perfect cell while goku evened out with pretty much. Buu saga majin vegeta admits goku is stronger so he let himself be possessed. During their fight majin vs ssj2 they were even but goku had ssj 3 just didnt want to use it. In battle of gods there is no way to know for sure if vegeta actually surpasses him because it was roshi who said it, beerus never stated it ( i think ) Also even if it were true it was for a split second because of the rage i am sure goku would also get a spike in power just like vegeta if chi chi gets hurt. similar to gohans hidden power but a shot spike. Even whis in revival of F says to vegeta he is always behind goku.

Yet and still, Vegeta at least landed several hits on Beerus while only as SS2, whereas SS3 Goku could barely keep up.

So, yeah.

@shonen1234 sometimes i feel like punching u in ur face... ever since you tried convincing us Trunks was in SS2 when every1 here knew he wasnt & u were still denying all evidence we brought forth

Interesting find shonen! I think they taste like yajirobe's– oh nevermind. #beandaddy

I have a question about RoF original dialogue (maybe you're best to answer Tin cause you can read chinese subs). What EXACTLY does Vegeta say to frieza before he fights him? (Would be ideal if someone spoke japanese.) Because:

In the english dub I'm not so convinced Vegeta's words on goku just being useful to fuel his rivalry and considering frieza's proposal to be in his army is so entirely a ruse. That is to say, I wanna know if Toriyama is sort of backtracking his redemption toward a "descent" guy. At the end of the final buu fight and that era he was pretty much fully redeemed, not to mention his atonement. As in converted truly to one of the good guys. Not an anti-hero (= someone that does a good thing because it coincides with his/her own agenda, not for the sake of it being a good thing). So I was curious what the actual og dialogue is there, and don't want it from an english sub if possible... I wanna know what Toriyama's written. (I believe the manga came after the movie, or reverse? Or at the same time? Whatever.)

Hopefully someone could answer me that cause I really wanna know this to as much detail as possible and I don't trust the english dub regarding a level that comes down to this much of an interpretation of dialogue.
I won't have access to a chinese subbed RoF until the bluray comes out. I also have no plans to buy the hong kong release cuz the hk home video release for battle of gods didn't have tvb voice actors for cantonese dub. Chances are RoF will release in the same fashion. And Funi's release won't be too far off from the jp release.

@Prodigy I had forgotten to reply to your collection setup from last month but it's awesome man!

And regarding DBS... yeah... Apart from Beerus conceptually/designwise and the ssj god concept, nothing is going the way I'd like it so it seems with this new material.

@IronLegion dude your collection is crazy haha!:lol No offence but if I had that I'd panic lmao. Too much stuff for me. But super impressive without doubt!:clap

That was just an emotional rage power boost though, like Gohan used to get. I think that was just to prove that Vegeta finally cared about his family, and that if he had given in to that earlier he may very well have surpassed Goku. Its been shown many times that its Gokus compassion for family and friends that keeps him ahead of Vegeta.

It's kinda weird though vegeta saw trunks die right infront of him (HIS OWN SON) and he still didn't get a huge power up. But gohan sees a robot die infront of him and he goes ssj2. Toryiama needs to stop bending vegeta over.

This is the truest **** ever said. Like, wtf, I understand 16 turned compassionate and all that ****, but his death is the sorriest motivation ever for Gohan going ssj2. How many times has Yamcha died without causing anyone to so much as power up? This robot walks onto the scene and all of a sudden Gohan goes all weepy John Connor over his Terminator dad. Nah...

Is it so hard to destroy what matters most to your characters? Tear their worlds down around them. Cell should have killed Piccolo. Gohan would have lost his ****ing mind.

Also, personally, I don't like Goku going ssj after Krillin's death on Namek. Krillin already died once in Dragonball; kill somebody whose death actually leaves an impact. I would have had Frieza kill Gohan. What motivation for going ssj would be stronger than the death of your child? And this brings us back to Vegeta and Trunks. Everything Vegeta had been putting up with his entire life: persecution, ridicule, the death of his father, the genocide of his entire people, essentially being enslaved himself by the planet trade organzation. And now, the death of the last of his bloodline at the hands of Cell... Dude has more motivation to go ssj2 than anyone in the series.

Oh thank you, lol. Didn't know you stopped by my collection topic over there in the other section of the board :).

SOOOOO true. Android 16's death wasn't a good enough reason for Gohan to go SSJ2. Was Gohan even that close to the damn robot? If anything I can explain it as kind of the last straw. Gohan saw his friends getting pulverized, his father dying, and the world was on the brink of destruction. It was building in him the entire fight. Add to the fact that 16 told him to just let it go and just unleash his power. It wasn't the fact that 16 himself died, but that Gohan just finally said enough is enough. Cuz of all that, I'll accept Gohan going SSJ2 at that moment.

Regarding Goku, it was probably the way Krillin died and how bleak everything looked at the moment of his death that really pushed him beyond. Again, it was the buildup of everything that led to the transformation.

Vegeta didn't really care too much about his son at that point and he was still kind of a villain or at least definitely an anti-hero. He has been through a lot and that's made him grow very strong in that aspect. Tragedy just doesn't seem to phase him anymore. He's grown numb. Bulma on the other hand is the power of love :inlove As corny as that sounds, he really cares and loves her and to see Beerus slap her like she was his hoe just ticked Vegeta off like crazy. It was just straight disrespect to his girl and he wasn't having that. That hit him right in the Dragonballs. Death he can handle, but disrespect, hell no.

@Sil, thanks bro! It's only gonna get bigger and better :rock

^ This. Vegeta and Piccolo are pretty much the only dbz characters that actually have genuine character development (pretty much the same thing except piccolo was faster). No real issues with any of those moments imo. You can't actually tap into positive emotion if you've been a stone cold killer for most of your life. Trunks triggered Vegeta down a different path, in BoG he has the entire Buu period in which he walks that path, behind him. It makes total sense that he was capable of such a boost there. Also, he only managed it for a moment, and he came from training. During the cell period he was already totally beat up by cell jr's etc. Different situations and a different point for vegeta altogether.

My only issue is RoF as it stands. That movie really back-pedalled Vegeta and for no god damn satisfying payoff to boot.

Oh yeah and DBS so far almost entirely. Basically everything post-BoG is letting me down so far.
