It's true - as I'm sure everybody is aware it's actually a master swordsman under Vader's helmet during the lightsaber duels of ESB. My argument is not that his technique is bad, but rather that the Ep1 battle with Maul made those characters appear to be way more powerful by comparison.

Really? I don't know, I have my doubts.

Maul fought 2 jedis at the same time, one at his physical prime and one with tons of experience, and he was only beat due to terrible writing :lol he had already technically beaten both.

I doubt Luke had the same lightsaber ability as Maul, and he only fought an old past his prime Vader who could barely move due to his armor/suit.

Luke has him beat with the force though, probably.

Actually if you do the research ( YouTube is a great ref ) in the SW universe, Luke's abilities are the same as Anakin's, in fact if Luke battled Anakin pre Vader they would physically call it a draw:lecture

Luke possesses the speed, quickness and physical strength as much as young Obi-Wan and Anakin combined

Oh yeah? Is that from the extended universe? I never read anything from the extended universe that involved the original cast :lol so I stand corrected, I was just going by the movies.

Where did he get his lightsaber training? Not with Yoda did he?

My surprise Darth Maul came in today :blissy

He's so amazing :love

Congrats and wow you got yours quick, but I'm expecting to see mine this week

I'm jealous you got him so fast - That is great! I ordered mine from bandaionline before he kept showing up on hlj. Got an awaiting shipment notice, but that's all so far...

I'm not the expert but if you search on YouTube they have great information. And no I'm not talking about some hyped up fan boy spilling his guts out about the SW universe, I'm talking about very good comparison photos, narration on the characters, film footage comparing, comic and book referencing..the works.

To answer your question I think they stated because of Luke's advanced ability to quickly develop his Jedi and force skills according to the level of Jedi Yoda trained him in, even though he left Yoda early, his natural given abilities helped finish the training on his own and down the line he figured it out how to construct a light saber. That's why when he returned to Yoda, Yoda sensed that Luke completed the training on his own.

It's really fascinating information and background on the history of Jedis.

The different color sabers aren't made for show, it's according to the level of Jedi one has become.

Yeah, the color of the lightsaber I did know.

But regarding the EU I only know about the games and some comics. I will do more research, I'm in the mood.

I have heard that before - about the color of the blade signifying depth of jedi rank, or ability in the force, I was always confused though by the younglings in AOTC having the same green or blue sabers that the master Jedi wield.

At first I thought it would be boring but when I got into it , it was actually very informative and made sense. Almost like you compare the different types of Samurai and ninja.

BTW they also reveal that Maul was a badass and he could even protect himself from force bolts

Hahaha!! Yeah, it's pretty much the only prequel character I'll ever own. It's really too bad that he got killed off so quickly. Seriously envision this. Maul showing up in the force awakens. Some will say that he'd be too old, but hell if yoda could reach hundreds of years old, why can't any other race do the same?
Maul was so sick. Pretty much the only thing from the prequels that turned out alright. Although I kinda like grievous and mace mother****ing windu!

Just saw the YouTube review on Disney Elite Darth Maul..cute but I 'm sticking with Figuarts despite the size difference :lecture

Luke is the most overrated Jedi of all time. Vader would have killed him in a second if he was not his son. Maul, Kenobi, Emperor, Yoda, Vader all are better than Luke (if we are going by only the movies). Even then, Luke is not a top five Jedi in the EU either, as I said, overrated.

Movie universe my rankings would go (based on lightsaber combat)

1. Kenobi
2. Palpatine
3. Yoda
4. Mace Windu
5. Vader

I was going to get the MAFEX Vader, but after looking at some pics, the face (especially the mouth grill) looks too small, and with the removable mask feature, you can he is missing some detail work and the detailing is kinda soft on the mask forehead and interior of the mouthpiece.

I'm happy with my model kit Vader for now. Maybe when Vader appears in some of the anthology movies we may get a new one from SHF.
