looking good though the legs look just as chicken skinny as the Weta one, which was the main complaint there. hopefully the armor bits will fill him out.

I'm sure the legs will be a bit bulkier because thats basically just an armature. Now, his legs weren't terribly massive either.

With the photo reference over his shoulder, the exclusive may be an alternate arm, hand outstretched and palm up, similar to the ssw version. I am guessing 499.00 for the price.

Isn't that the SSW version, being used for reference purposes.

do my eyes deceive or does that say 80 inches:panic::thud:

:lol:lol:lol

I thought it said 80 in as well, but that would be like 1:1 scale :panic:. My biggest gripe about the SSW piece was also the skinny nature of it; I hope he has some bulk to him or else he would just tip right on over with all that armor.

The Legacy Neytiri is around that size and they want 1600, I would not expect anything less at this point with the recent pricing changes at SS.

Needless to say it will be epic.

Neytiri is Legacy which basically makes it expensive ::cough::, overpriced. I hope and guess this will be somewhat less. Although it still could easily be in the $1000+ range.

$500 I wouldn't think twice about picking this up...space issues or no space issues.

We will just have to wait and see.

I was mghtily impressed with Weta's rivendell pricing...let us see how sideshow handles this.

Yeah Neytiri was way overpriced, some of the stuff from Legacy seem relatively reasonable tho' like the 1/4 scale IM Maquette.

has no one seen this yet

Q: We are all aware of the Sauron Premium Format scheduled for 2012. We are also aware of the fact the piece will be based on the incredible artwork of Jerry Vanderstelt. Topping Jerry’s representation may be next to impossible, but I’m sure Sideshow will do everything possible to do justice to this iconic character. Are you up for the task?–AND–When are we going to get our first glimpse of the Dark Lord?

A: Sculpture is well under way, and shaping up VERY nicely. He’s OMG huge. We’ll make no such promise as ‘topping’ Jerry’swork, as he’s already top notch, but we’ll definitely do Sauron justice. This is THE Dark Lord.

Very nice! :clap I posted that question about a month ago in the hope SS would provide us with a sneak peek...looks like it worked. At approx.32 1/4" this is going to be huge and since I highly doubt Sauron is positioned on the base in this image I think were looking at a 35" PF. :thud:

That's a good point. I originally thought the photo reference was merely a reference as to scale, but you might be onto something.

This is understandable. Any artist that is involved in the creation of a character that has already been done by another will want to know all the details of what went into that other piece, like the beautiful SSW Sauron.
Most likely, it is reference primarily to aid decision making for what not to imitate, like the pose, so that each statue will have their own unique look.
As far as the skinny leg issue, Sauron's legs are actually on the thin side in reality. I have a lot of imagery from the FOTR set that confirms this, so the SSW piece is very accurate, BUT one of my main suggestions to SS with the 1/4 scale Sauron was to bulk him up more, especially in his leg armour :rotfl

Good pickup, I hope you're right and the Ex is a raised arm so we can increase the display options : )
