Sorry, I've looked at my art print a ton and don't see it. Doesn't bother me a bit if the went with that exactly. The pose in the print in no way is close to the Rogue PF.

I still have concerns about this pose. I know this is likely to get a few of you uptight but I think it has a bit of a feminine look to it. With the hip tilted to the right and head tilted to the right. Even the right hand is somewhat flared outward. I realize this is just a rough version of the statue and the hand, for example could be placed totally different. Direct your eyes up the screen to the ROGUE PF in the banner above. Does that have a somewhat similar pose to anyone else?

Anyway, I'm not trying to be an alarmist the piece is still a long ways from release and we haven't seen much of the actual piece. I know with the armor, base, etc. it will look a lot more "manly" but I am a bit concerned. :panic:

Valid concerns Obs. I do share some of them.

Well it may be a long way from release but Sideshow does not seem to take any customer input into account til pieces don't do well. I recommend writing to them directly if you have concerns and using the 'ask sideshow' section of the forum. I don't think they read this section much.

Whoever comes up with some of the poses is not the best tho after the Morgul Lord PF fiasco.

They listen to input but as I've said many times something things arent good to listen to, can't be done because of the licensor, etc. They do read this section trust me.

I am pretty certain that this piece will look very much, if not exactly like the Vanderstelt print. I am crossing my fingers that in statue form I really like it (more then the print).

I tend to agree with you fuzzy on Sideshow seemingly not doing much to change a statue when customers in this forum have issues with it. I truely believe Sideshow does care what its customers want. They are a business and all businesses care about what customers think / want. Each business has its own way of collecting that information and determining how to use it.

What it seems like to me is that SS begins production on a statue and by the time those of us on this forum actually see the statue in some form of production it is too late for SS to really make any changes. I don't know their reasons for not making any changes at that point. Whether it is licensing difficulties, too costly, or they don't agree with the changes being suggested, etc.

Bottom line I think most of us can agree, by the time we see even rough production pictures of a piece there is slim to no chance it will be changed.

I also agree with you Josh, SS does care about what customers say and may even read these forums although I have no way of knowing how often. It is rare that I see any posting by them.

Does anyone know what kind of customer feedback, if any, is recieved PRIOR to production, at a point early enough that the piece could be altered if there was enough customer feedback to warrant it?

Take the Sauron PF switch out hand poll that has been going on the last couple of days. Over 70% of voters want an arm raised version of the statue. What are the odds we see that happen? Unless it is already planned / in production that way, I think the odds are slim. Whether the reason is licensing problems or whatever.

One thing I do disagree with you on Josh is that I think it is ALWAYS good to listen to your customers. However, I realize it isn't always possible to do what they want nor is it always a good idea. Which may be exactly what you meant.

Sorry about the novel. I am not trying to criticise SS as much as I am trying to share my perception of things. Also, I can possibly gain further insight into the way SS receives customer feedback on pieces they are producing or will be producing. I welcome any insight other, more experienced collectors may have.

I don't think there's anyway of knowing exactly how much customer feedback SS receives prior to (or during) creating a new piece. I know they do read these forums and do consider requests and opinions made about items but to know exactly when they read the Forum, how many times etc I think would be impossible to know.

Yes they also post here occasionally, usually in the Ask SS section but they definately want their customers to be happy, what collectables company wouldn't.

I think what peeps sometimes forget is that while we are a Sideshow Forum, we are a very small portion of the collecting community. So relying on things like polls that may be made requesting changes/improvements may be interesting to watch, but it still may not be the opinion of the majority.
It's easy to claim a certain % of people in the Sauron poll want a change/improvement/alteration but when you look closely at that thread, only 19 people have voted so there is absolutely no way that figure can be condusive in speaking for the majority of collectors.
It's great to have and is a good indication of what some people would like to see but it in no way speaks for every collector, or even the majority of collectors.

I think at the end of the day SS will do what they can to give us the best LOTR collectable they can and I for one cannot wait for the reveal on this.

That is pretty surprising so few voted, Marvel section has way more votes in their polls and I've definitely seen more than 19 posters frequent this section. Whether they just aren't interested in the piece or just don't want to vote I don't know.

Well, hopefully Sideshow figures a poll here works just like controlled study in medicine or poll in any other area. You can't poll your whole customer base or the whole population for something, but a subset of the population should give a rough indication of where a particular preference lies and the same preferential proportions can roughly be extrapolated to the rest of the customer base.

If anyone hasn't voted, please do.

Cheers.

Thats what I meant. Its good to listen though sometimes you can't for many reasons or its just not a good idea.

If they do then I wonder how frequently. Woodsy had to actually alert them to the thread which was going on for weeks debating stuff.

I don't know if its everyday but its probably more than some think as well.

May be just don't want to vote because we're such a small part of the %. If people really feel this way best thing to do is email them along with doing a poll. Plus the LOTR section isn't what it once was when I first started posting here. Back in the day you would have had a lot more voting going on.

Exactly correct Fuzzy, I was going to go into that a bit in my last post when I mentioned the poll, but my post was already rather long winded.

I always thought that the PFs were more 'movie-depicted' scenes and the new Maquette line was more of 'character-essence'. It seems that Sauron is taking on the more 'essence' style if it follows Jerry's work.

Personally, I am not digging the statue all that much yet...way too static. Many of the other PFs show some dynamic nature to them and I really dig that. Heck, even Lurtz is WALKING as he did towards Boromir to finish him off. If this statue is simply of Sauron standing there looking off in the distance...meh. I wish he could be portrayed swinging his mace or at least rasing a fist showing the glowing ring or something. Again...just my own 2 cents...but if this sucker is over $500 as many expect, I would much rather have something a bit more 'dramatic'. Look at the upcoming Ringwraith on Steed PF...now that looks amazing...and DYNAMIC!! And please don't tell me that Sauron just standing there is dramatic because he is the dark lord...he had enough screen time to warrant some dynamic nature to this PF.

You're "two cents" have been heard; if you don't like, don't buy.Of course you can always sculpt your own Sauron to get exactly what you want Geb.

I'm in line with having a dynamic pose as well. Since this is the only Sauron PF from Sideshow I hope they choose the most appropriate pose or at least have a switch out. No thinking outside the box for this please unless they make more than 1 Sauron PF in the span of a year. As for getting another piece if you don't like it, I think only Sideshow has the licence to officially produce these large statues at the moment, unless you're talking about unlicenced bootlegs or customs?

You in charge of the sculpting process in this Jerry?

I think it is too early to judge as to what this statue will be like, all we have seen is a very minimal mock up.

If it is sculpted exactly as Jerry's print then I for one will be very happy because I don't need a physically dynamic pose to prove a characters presence/ power or evil nature. If they include the hill and skeleton etc imo it will look phenomenal. Sauron standing over looking all those he has killed and beaten (or is about to).
I would much prefer Jerry interpretation to something like the pose Sauron was in for the Dio piece.

Referring to the RWOS, the only pic we've seen of the upcoming RWOS was a statue made by Weta (the horse rearing up) so yes I agree that is DYNAMIC and would look incredible piece (kinda reminds me of GoSF).
That picture however is not an SS piece (it is Weta created if I remember correctly) so who knows if that is the concept SS are thinking of for the RWOS. It can certainly be called 'dynamic' but it is not created by SS and no-one knows if they will use a similar pose as no-one has seen it their interpretation for the PF yet.
Just my opinion anyway.

That is very true Jerry. The option of walking away from something that doesn't quite appeal to us is always there. Unfortunately, SS [not to mention every other collectible company] is in the unenviable position of never being able to please everyone. The simple truth is no statue is going to resonate with everyone and this one is no different. Personally, I don't find the pose of the SSW Sauron statue where he is doing nothing more than standing there with his arm raised to be "dynamic" whatsoever. It is also a statue, however, that I believe to be a perfect example of one where action is not required in order for the statue to have a dramatic "air" about it.

And as has been discussed before, there are a myriad of reasons as to why SS goes in a particular artistic direction with any given statue. Some have to do copyright issues, others with New Lines approval process, and others still with SS simply giving theirs artists the ability to create/capturing their own vision of a particular character.

In the end I think this statue will be a very nice piece no matter what. We wouldn't collect Sideshow statues if we didn't have some confidence in them. The pose may not be ideal to everyone but I am hoping it will still fall into an acceptable range for me. It may not end up as the perfect pose in my eyes but will still be nice. Others may love it. I'm done worrying about it until I see a more final version.

As i've said before, I love Jerry's artwork and the pose chosen.

I've always thought of the PF line to be more about 'museum' type poses rather than crazy 'dynamic' poses anyway. And that's how I like it.

Really? Black orc of Mordor PF and RWOS WIPs both look to be really dynamic, even the awkwardly posed Morgul Lord PF was dynamic.

True. When you put it like that. :lol

I suppose I was just thinking of the ones I have, which are only good guys. I suppose you're right.

Either way, i'm just excited to see what sideshow has in store. :peace

One of the reasons the RWOS statue from the SSW line was my favorite was the fact it had a subtle sense of power and darkness with it. It didn't need to be swinging a sword to show that and I think the Sauron PF matching Jerry's print will be the same.
