wow! it does look great! can i ask for the dimensions of this piece? especially the measurements of the soldiers, just want to know if they are at scale with the other dios of this line. it was my fear that they might come out obviously smaller than, let's say, aragorn and the uruks from the helm's deep dio. also, i hope that we won't have any problems regarding the detachable head of sauron, unlike those who have the ssw fs have with the easily-falling helm. thanks for the pics, they look awesome and i'm looking forward to getting mine next month!:D

I believe I read somewhere the dio. is 1/10th scale whereas the other dio's featuring human characters are 1/9th scale. The scale difference seems negligible to me considering Sauron is still huge [even at 1/10th scale] and there are 4 Numenoreans in the dio.

oh ok. thanks for that woodsy. i always thought that, well except for the battle above the black gates and the duel of light and fire dios, the LOTR diorama line will constantly be at 1/9 scale. nevertheless, at 15", sauron still would be towering over the others.

Hmm, i'm still not completely sold. Does Sauron still have shiny armour or is that in part down to your flash camera? Also the broken sword on the base... the broken pieces don't seem to be the same width as the hilt - is that just the angle of the photo?
The pose looks better in person and not so 'casual' or camp, but his shoulder pads look a bit big, and the helm a bit too thin. He also seems a bit smaller than he should be...
These might be minor niggles, but important to decide whether i want it or not!
Thanks!

I noticed the same thing, Sauron's movement seems more natural/fliud. I'm not sure if SS tweaked the original sculpt or not, but it looks really good to me. I was wondering about the shinyness of the armour as well, though I think it's safe to say it's flash-related. I guess we'll have to wait for Fremen to comment on this.

I'm trying to think if he would be too shiny to you or not. I don't know. A lot of the shininess is from the flash for sure.
I'm not at home right now and even if I was, I don't know if I could answer this question for you.

I just look at things as a whole and either like it or don't so it's hard for me to answer these kinds of questions.

What I do know, is I like this statue.

And that is the most important thing of all. :D

Looking at the pic's of Sauron still in the packing foam and sitting on the floor, he does appear darker in colour. And just an observation Fremen, but you may want to invest in some more display cases.....and preferably before that room is completely overrun. :naughty

What woodsy said! That last pic of your collection reminded me of a Where's Waldo comic page.

I'm waiting for the man to finish the basement floor so I can buy more detolfs.
I have a feeling I'll be waiting until fall at the earliest.

I simply ran out of room and am tired of seeing half of my stuff in the basement in boxes. But I bought this anyways and just love it. it is truly gorgeous and a work of art. I passed on the Shades of Mordor since I built my own with full architecture but I am very glad I bought this one. The detail is amazing and the flow of the action is perfect.

sorry to bump an old thread, but i am just so happy i managed to FNIALLY pick this piece up at <$300 shipped. Been looking for this for a long time ever since i saw it in person. Was expecting to pay much more but noone else bid on it!!

Reading back on this thread, i think a lot of the complaints missed the fact this is not a sauron PF statue, so of course the detail of sauron will not be at that level but it's still very good. The uniqueness is the action shot of all the soldiers go flying in midair frozen in time. And unlike other SS dio they did not skimp on the details of the support characters (flying soldiers!). Everything looks so intricate including the base with the body/broken weapon.

I dont think you can find another lotr dio with this kind of "actionness" (some of the riders on horses come close). For example the clash of kings, wall of helm deep etc..although all action shots just looks business as usual, doesnt have the wow i must have this factor :)

anyway jsut my opinion. /rumbling off.

Managed to snag one of these at about retail:yess:. Its the first of hopefully many LOTR pieces in my collection. I'm glad the LOTR pieces haven't inflated in price too much. Makes it easier on the wallet to catch up

Congrats. Hope you like it. The LOTR pieces are fantastic. I especially like the Sideshow Weta riders pieces, and the Premium Formats.
This new line that they are doing is fantastic as well.

Yeah, between what SS is doing, Weta, and what they worked on together a Ringer can make one hell of a collection.

I have not picked up any of the new weta pieces but I was eyeing them yesterday. Nice.
