Jessica - why didn't you give your boys "racoon eyes" using black makeup?

They refused to wear "makeup" so I didn't push it. The important thing is they got to geek out with me in costume.

If we could just go out in public and just be dressed up as apes...that would be so lovely. Angel--we should someday go watch a hockey game dressed up as apes. It would be so fun. Just think what a blast you would have pumping up your gorilla fists and cheering your team on. Wouldn't that be so awesome?

Sticks--you are closer but a convention also means flight time/chimpchange. I really wish we all lived closer to each other!

Guys I wrote a bit more about my Wondercon experience and posted it on the apes yahoo groups. Let me know if you want me to forward it to you via e-mail if you cannot access it.

PZ I was thinking as I was pulling up the dandelions on my hillside that you really think about creating a pullover for Comicon. The orangutans are the easiest EVER to pull off. The hairstyle is so super easy...you just need to find long hair and bangs...the eyebrows are not a big deal. Apemania already creates the orangutan appliances. You just have to get the raw one, and paint it up yourself with rubber mask grease paint, glue it on top of a spandex hood and slap on a wig. You don't even have to be dressed in the whole orangutan outfit...just the pullover. What do you say? I think you should go for it!!! Oh please do it!!

Wow my fingernails/fingertips look so horrible! I removed the black nailpolish, but some of it went under my nails so it looks like I've got mechanic's hands. UGH! Guess I'll have to put another layer of black nail polish just so I don't look at it.

I remember being punished for this in first grade by those whack nuns. They made me kneel on the floor and amble my way all over the classroom on my knees showing all the kids my dirty nails. All the kids with dirty nails had to do this. I was not the only one, but boy, were those nuns really evil.

Oh cool! Thanks for that. You know, when you go in costume, it makes you change the way you behave. I don't normally walk pigeon-toed, but I do when I'm in character. WEIRD!

Hi Jessica! I really love the Ape outfits that you put together. The shirt and pants for the boys look to be the correct color. How did you accomplish that? I think that it makes this thread extra special when someone such as you is so much into the Planet of the Apes! It enhances the whole reason why I love this hobby. Thanks for sharing the special pictures and by the way, you all look great in costume. Maybe one day, they will remake the original and cast you in the film. Take care, Kent.:monkey5

Kfog--I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. I know it's not 1:6 scale related but it's ape related. I would really love if we all could get together someday, perhaps at a convention and really ape it out together. That would be most awesome for me.

PZ--you really should represent the orangutans at the upcoming con!

Jeff B., a member from a different forum and also from the Yahoo groups, found the fabric for me. I told him to get me 4 yards, and that was enough. Actually, 3.5 yards would have sufficed but at least when I was cutting out the fabric I knew there were enough yards and I wasn't stressed out. There's nothing worse than the feeling of not having enough fabric to get your costume accomplished. The fabric came from southern California.

Oh! I also forgot to say that I forgot to put snaps on Dylan's fake leather vest, so I had to sew the costume closed (just like what they do for those Balinese dancers!). I would have done the same for the boot covers, but that was just more stress for me that morning so I decided at the last moment to not worry about the boot covers for my gorilla soldiers.

Nice, I thought the same thing. :gun

Hey Kfog, remember that straw hat you gave me? Well I think I found a good use for it. What do you think? I'm not sure about Frodo though. I'm digging the new additions to my American Civil War collection.

Looks like the new reboot is headed before the cameras:

"Planet of the Apes" Prequel to Begin Filming in July

Production Weekly is reporting that 20th Century Fox's "Planet of the Apes" prequel, called "Caesar," has set up production offices in Burnaby, BC. Director Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) will begin filming mid-July.

Based on 1972 "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes," the new film revolves around a doctor (Will) trying to cure Alzheimers. He's working with monkeys to create a benign virus that can get into brain tissue and restore functionality. After his research is shut down he's left with just one chimp, the child of his most promising subject. Young Caesar is incredibly intelligent for an ape, and over time he continues to mutate and evolve, looking less like a chimp and moving on from sign language to actual speech. Eventually Caesar ends up leading an army of apes in an uprising just as a catastrophe strikes mankind.

Hey, PZ...

Any idea of what the (Will) in parenthesis refers to? An actor? The character name? Is Will Farrell or Will Smith attached to this project. Will Smith would surely be a plus. Farrell a total disaster.

It's got me very curious.

I really like the idea for a souther drummer boy! Very nice indeed!

I am only 6 1/2 hours drive time from LA and/or San diego or 45 minutes by plane. Very close access to any Souther California event from sunny Arizona.:devil

Got me some apes...

Posted these over in "the latest purchase" thread, but though I might show off my apes over here in ape land. I Loooove these figures..

Is the captain worth getting? He seems like a copy of the soldier with the different vest printing and a belt?

I believe Will is a character name. I don't think that an actor has been attached to the project yet.

Nice pics, Rorywan! I love it when more collectors pick up these ape beauties... gives me hope of a second wave.

To answer your question... for the causal collector, the Captain is not a must buy necessarily. It would have been great if Hot Toys molded a different face plate for the Captain but that is asking too much from this unsure line. To Hot Toys, the captain stands as a variation of the soldier and not it's own separate release. Yet he does come with a few accessories that the the soldier doesn't like the cool Ape Flag.

However for those who wish to see the General in comand of more than just one gorilla, the Captain is a welcomed addition.

LOve your photos, Rorywan!! They are absolutely fabulous....

Sticks--so cool to see Frodo and friend in your Civil War duds. I've got so many things I want to do!

I have to make the following costumes for daycare:
6 airplane wings, 6 pilot beanies, 6 goggles
2 bluebird wings, 2 bluebird caps
6 peace necklaces
5 picket signs
5 vests with extra long fringes
7 toddler sized stars
7 flower

My deadline is July. I have only finished 5 sets of wings and the bluebird costumes. I have a mountain of work ahead of me. I also have 2 sculpts (1 mego scale, one in 1:6 scale) that have the same deadline...but those I can probably do in 2 weeks or so.
