Alright, thanks.

Nother question.. How do you know if one is pregnant other than it getting..fat? I noticed these small white circle shaped thingys on the inside of it's stomach..

Learned that these are Striped Bark Scorpions, by the way.

The way I learned was to watch for the soft tissue between the plates to get bigger (more space between the plates). And as I learned it...that is about the only way.

Get some pics of all of the markings. I am curious.

Ah, I read about that but couldn't find anything about these white bubble-like areas. I assumed they were just part of the pattern, but they do look like some type of embryo/egg stuff. They might be too..neatly placed, though.
Oh, and it doesn't look like the newly found Scorpion has these white bubbley areas..

Put the other one I found in the first one's temporary home..fed him a cricket.

I've noticed the first one likes to..play with the crickets. He/she isn't interested in eating anymore due to the big meal last night, but he/she'll go near the crickets and wack them with his/her tail, or pinch them.. :lol

These guys are awesome.

I'll take some pics in about 30 minutes.

Unfortunately it turns out I don't have the camera with me..best I could do were these ____ty cellphone pics, I'll take some more once I have the camera.

....and for some reason they're not showing up.

I am not sure what the white spots are. But I can tell you it has nothing to do with the scorpion being pregnant. They carry the babies internally. When the babies are born, they come out of the chest area and climb onto the mother's back where they get nutrients through osmosis for up to 6 weeks...usually much less than that, though. When they are ready to get off the mom's back...it is a very dangerous time for them as they are fair game to be eaten by mom then.

If the scorpion is overly stressed...she will eat them as they emerge from the birth canal.

I have set up a 10-gallon terrarium for mine now. I installed a heater under it and added some snackables (crickets). He should be all good, now. I will get a pick as soon as I can.

Okay, and I actually did find those white spots on the other Scorpion also..who just finished off an entire cricket :thud:

And yeah, I read about the whole momma eating baby thing and that you should have plenty of food prepared for that, and maybe rip off the cricket's hopping legs so it'll be easier for her to capture and eat them, and doesn't end up eating the babies.

I forgot to ask about a heating light or whatever..do I need one? I assumed it was only needed for store bought Scorpions, I mean..these guys are basically going to be living in the same environment they always have been..just with airconditioning and a heater..ha.

Camera wasn't in the place I thought it was..gonna have to look around for it, hopefully by then whatever probelm I was having with posting pictures from Photobucket is resolved.

@Devil
The Cricket my first Scorpion ate yesterday was the same length as his body, but fatter.. So they can eat a lot..

This isn't mine, took it off Google, but it's the same species as mine:

What's the biggest thing they'll eat?

Depending on the size of the scorpion...these things have been known to eat small lizards and (very) small rodents.

Lar'ja - As long as you keep the atmosphere reasonably close to their natural environment, you should be fine. I did buy one of the heater pads that sticks to the bottom of the terrarium. But that is because I like my room to be damned cold and I want the scorpion to be comfortable enough to come out and "hunt" for the crickets I have provided for him.

Edit - by the way...cool-looking scorpion.

I let the latter found Scorpion go, bought a bigger thing for the first one..and bought an Emperor Scorpion today. :lol

I've spent about 200$ today on Scorpions...

Just got a call from my kids. It seems that the older of my two daughters was up far past her bedtime...THIS MORNING at about 1:00 or 2:00...and woke my ex-wife up with psychotic screamimg from the living room. When my ex got there with taser in one hand and mace in the other to fight off what she expected to be an intruder, she was met by a scorpion running across the living room floor.

They caught it for me so I get to replace the one that died on me early this year.

I am stoked!

Edit - I also got a UV light for the terrarium so getting pictures of him glowing at night should be easy, now.

:lol:lol:lol Congrats, Steve! :rock

LOL...Thanks! I was devastated when I found my last scorpion at the bottom of his water dish. I had that one for like 4 or 5 months.

Edit - I was actually planning to use that scorpion in a photo shoot with my GI Joe Dusty figure as it was a very tiny one and just about the correct size for a 1:6 figure. Really too bad it drowned.

Damn.

I want a scoprion even more than I want a black widow.

I would be happy to send one if I figured I could get it there alive. I'll look in to seeing what can be done. These things get shipped to pet stores so it is not like it can't be done.

No, not really. :monkey1

I do really want a scorpion though.

If you can figure out a safe and relatively cheap way of shipping one, I'm be all over it.

I still have that C. Vitattus from my last post. And the Emperor. Wow, that was nine months ago. And I actually found another for the first time since then in my kitchen a few days ago.

Finally a male for the female. :love

@Darth Cruel

From what I've read, UV/black lights can cause several health problems for scorpions if kept on for too long.

I've gotta say...out of all the lizards/spiders/frogs/fish/etc that I've had throughout my life, none have interested me as much as scorpions.
You really never get bored with them..and they're so easy to take care of.

My emperor (Grimm) is like a tank. He'll have two crushed crickets in his massive chelae while at the same time chewing a third.

(not my pic)

And my Vitattus (Drive) is more like a ninja..scittering around her bark fort I put together, and always using her stinger on the crickets...

(pic I took within the month I found her)
