So what do u guys think about this sketch for a SDCC shirt? I used a generic looking Iron Man Hot Toys for copyright purposes! ;)

P.S...i was inspired by another shirt i saw and the fist propaganda!

Looks good! :wave

Exactly. I'm not getting any exclusives if I have to jump over backwards or stand in line for hours. It's just not worth it to me.

Thats why I pretty much have skipped Hasbro or given money to someone willing to stand in line. Not worth it wasting time for panels or something else more important there.

All things considered, it would better reflect SDCC if Iron Man was grey :)

I am going to be soooooooo pissed if after a year of planning to go Marvel are a no show with "The Avengers"!

Even Marvel Entertainment, whose panel for “The Avengers” was a highlight of Comic-Con 2010, is on the fence about whether it will mount a major presentation.

LINK.

Oh I don't think you'll see a big shift in anything. Movies that open right after Comic-Con will see the biggest bump. If it opens months afterwards you lost that a bit.

that article is a bummer, but after stuff like Scott Pilgrim and Sucker Punch bombed I'm not that surprised.

Yeah well guess we will see what happens. Still heaps of other stuff to see I guess but I really wanted to see Avenger stuff.

I think they'll be there with that. Those studios may not have had anything that really fits Comic-Con for all I know. If they'r reacting to Sucker Punch (which I liked) and Scott Pilgrim (overrated) two niche films isn't fair.

I imagine that if they spent big bucks on SDCC advertising and that didn't translate into the ticket sales they expected, or even lost money due to negative buzz, then they would naturally scale down or cancel SDCC plans. All those free Scott Pilgrim screens couldn't have helped. No Warner, Dreamworks, Disney, or Weinstein seems more a trend than coincidence. Still, I'd be quite surprised at no Marvel panel.

Article said:
Comic-Con, as a growing number of movie marketers are realizing, has turned into a treacherous place. Studios come seeking buzz, but the Comic-Con effect can be more negative than positive. The swarm of dedicated fans — many of whom arrive at the convention in Japanese anime drag or draped in Ewok fur — can instantly sour on a film if it doesn’t like what it sees, leaving publicity teams with months of damaging Web chatter to clean up.

So they are basically saying we don't want to show our crappy movies because we know they are crappy but we don't want anybody else to realize it until half way through the movie and the tickets are already paid for.

Am i the only one who thinks that is really sad. If only the creator of these comic-based films would focus on writing a halfway decent story instead of blowing their entire massive budget on special effects and big name actors, then this wouldn't even be an issue. Take some pride in your work for god sake.

Right now I'd say its coincidence until it happens more than one year. The article is right that not all the studios come every year thats just the way its been in every year I've gone.

“It’s a red-letter opportunity, but you shouldn’t go simply because it sits there on the calendar,” said Michael Moses, co-president of marketing for Universal Pictures. “You have to be absolutely certain you have goods ready that can really make a difference for your film.”

This guy is right. They have to bring the goods and some of the stuff they talked about where small flicks or niche films. Like I said you gotta bring your best in order for it to work and also make sure your movie doesnt suck.

ever with the rose tinted glasses, Josh. :D :duff

I'm a glass is half full person thats for sure. Its just I've been to comic-con 6 times with #7 coming up and you notice each studio doesn't always bring stuff. There will be plenty of big stuff.

got ya beat by a couple years ;) and the Hollywood-ization and media coverage of SDCC over the last few has been interesting.

But you are definitely correct that there will be plenty of big stuff. Twilight FTW! :rotfl

Oh I'm sure my number of years is less than lots of folks here. Oh its been very interesting and fun to watch.

Yeah, twilight is gonna make things so much fun. Last time those fans were annoying. :lol

yeah the marvel stuff has been canceled to make room for more twilight!

only 2 more years of the twi-moms and their twi-spawn. hopefully this year their panel doesn't interfere with the other stuff, aka the good stuff, but I'm not holding my breath.
