Sent them an email...here's what was in their automated message:

"Comic-Con 2012 badges are sold out. Although our site and EPIC's
registration site was able to handle the load of customers wishing to
purchase a badge, the conduit between the link in the email and the
registration site was overwhelmed and service was intermittent for a
short period of time. However, the link was not incorrect and was not
dead, and once the volume of hits decreased it worked as planned.
There will be a chance to purchase refunded and returned badges at a
later date."

First time I went was 2010 (where I think badge purchases were dependant on word-of-mouth -- and the individual passes lasted for quite a few days before selling out).
Didn't go in 2011 though, so how did they do it then? Was it some other streamlined system?

Yes...they posted it 3 times and it crashed the first 2 times...maybe the 3rd time too!

The preview night tickets didn't sell out until today. There was an extremely limited number available at the show last year. You would have had to be like the first 50-100 people in line and camped out over night starting at around 2 am to get the preview night passes as I talked to folks who got there at 4:30am and waited in line and still got no tickets.

Yikes. Not sure which system is better, then. I doubt any purchase method will work perfectly as long as it's SDCC and thousands of people want to go.

I think the only sensible post I've seen on Facebook was from one person who suggested limiting the number of badges per customer to three or four, rather than six.

Limiting it would work and expanding it over more days would work as well since they are under contract with the San Diego convention center until 2015.

I think they need to really separate the movie premieres and the comic con. Maybe do the weekend before for movies and run the con for the whole week with the following weekend being a repeat for the movie premieres and all the TV/comic/toy stuff.

This year was way better than last year. Took hours to get tickets last year, where this year it took like 15 mins.

Glad you got your tickets then. :rock

With everything taken care of now I'm ready for Comic-Con 2012 (though, I've been ready since last comic-con :lol), freaks party, and having a freaking blast as usual.

Hell yea!

Although the next thing to worry about getting is hotel.

Nice!

Thankfully the accommodations aspect has been taken care of for me and my awesome group.

If anything, this system beats time taken away just to try to score some preview + 4 day tickets. I'm glad I didn't brave that line this past SDCC because I heard it was ridiculous. This new method allowed me to score one from the comforts of my room, and only took 45 mins.

Yeah, that pre-registration line last year was crazy. I went over there on Thursday night and there were already people lined up at 7pm for the next morning. I'm sure they got their tickets, but it's not worth a 12 hour wait for me. I'm glad they're doing away with on site registration so that everyone can try to enjoy this year's SDCC and have one less thing to worry about.

hells bells.....!!!! Am I the only one who didn't upgrade their registration from last year's presale? Seems I am the only one who will be in line at the Town and Country to get badged on Wednesday afternoon/evening. :(
