I wish i could see this movie, but i got the delta variant at the moment, my home boys were like just go but I’m like I eat can’t popcorn without coughin and I feel like damb oh well
Soooooo.... You currently have the Delta variant, and your home boys still wanted you to go to the movies..... :slap

So hard to imagine how Covid is still spreading... :dunno

Kudos to you for doing the right thing and NOT going to the theater and staying home. :clap

Lol this is the most I’ve seen darkthosis stick around the forum in a while
We need a @darthkostis and @Otomofan hosted review channel.

It looks like Shang Chi is going to have a huge opening, despite a pandemic. Marvel is OP. :lol
I hope it does well for them and has “legs” as they say. I don’t expect it to replace my favorite comic movies, just wanted a good martial arts comic book movie. If the fights are CGI floating wire work devoid of impact, as I’ve read, I’ll be bummed.

If you like Crouching Tiger, Hero and House of Flying Daggers you will also like this.

If you prefer your martial arts more grounded then you will hate this.

Why did they go with Shang instead of Iron Fist.

I can’t believe Marvel went and made Shang Chi as recognizable as the rest of the Avengers now lol

Yeah, I’m not one of those who likes MMA levels of nausea inducing violence but some grounded action that communicates true import of the characters’ physical confrontation is good. Maybe a mix of what you describe would be good. Honestly, I can’t recall a comic book movie that has had what I’d consider “gritty” fight scenes.

Isn’t Shang-Chi, in part, Marvel’s apology for the Netflix Iron Fist?

That's some hack writing IMO. Well, Shang-chi is "seemingly" doing well at the box office. Happy for those who I'm sure worked hard on the project, hopefully it does well overall. My son mentioned he wanted to see it and I floated the possibility of going to the theater, but he didn't want to bother, knowing he can stream from the couch next month. I, for one, tested positive for Covid week before last (even with the vaccine) so I'm not going out there. Interesting that the numbers may show a desire for movie theater experiences again.
Hope you get to feeling better. Kudos for not getting out and possibly spreading anything.

More like checking off a box. Not sure what other diverse backgrounds need their own MCU movies, as this guy felt like a D+ character. Marvel over the years just never really built up an Asian character and making him a circus ring toss champion doesn't really do it for me.

Every continent must have at least one representative.

Africa - Black Panther
Antarctica -
Asia - Shang Chi
Australia -
Europe - Thor and Asgar, maybe? Scarlet Witch
North America - All MCU heroes
South America -

Asia - Shang Chi
This is what I don't like. Asian representation defaults to Chinese. Yes, they're Asian but Asia is not just Chinese/China. Shang-Chi is very Chinese specific that I'd say it's the first MCU Chinese superhero. That Crazy Rich Asians movie should have been Crazy Rich Chinese.

Reminds me of Shang talking about that guy teasing him in high school singing Gangnam Style. "But, I'm not Korean!"

In Hollywood/the media, diversity often just means black people. Hispanic representation often defaults to Mexican, probably because Mexico is close to the US and there's lots of Mexicans in the US. It's just the way it is. So, Asian/Asia = Chinese. They also have the largest box office outside the US and there's 1.4 billion Chinese people...that sounds like a lot. Also, Americans like fake Chinese food, like Panda Express. :lol Speaking of which, Americans also like Panda bears. Those are from China, right? So was Bruce Lee. I think it's a way to simplify things. It's whatever is well known in the US that gets represented. It's a myopic way of looking at the world, but that's how Hollywood and most people see the the world.
