I never watch Godzilla movies looking for a serious "meaning of life" type experience. I sit back and let the non-sense take over.
Here are the selections I can watch repeatedly, meaning, I get the most enjoyment from these G movies:

Godzilla vs Monster Zero (Invasion of Astro Monster)
GMK
Godzilla vs Megalon (you know you guys like this one! :lol)
Mothra vs Godzilla
Godzilla vs MechaG ('74)
King Kong vs Godzilla
Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster

It's obvious I enjoy the 'VS' movies the most. My ideal daikaiju movies will always have them fighting each other. :yess:

I don't look for the movies to be serious, but when they are, there's a quality to their depiction of Godzilla himself which I like most of all. That's what's magical about Mothra vs Godzilla, he's depicted that same way and fights other monsters.

The truly great films in the series tend to be more serious, but if the movies were always serious, the series wouldn't have lasted as long.

It's a give and take.

But it's always great when a monster movie can be exciting and still hit you in the jugular with emotion or horror.

Shin Godzilla isn't outright horrifying, but there is a horrific twist to his immortality, with his body ever evolving to adapt to the latest issues. As impervious to weapons as Godzilla has historically been, you have a sense that maybe something could stop him or drive him away, but every time you think Shin is down, a new trait evolves.

The ending tail shot is great, although, I'm not sure how many viewers catch that the smaller creatures aren't present when he's first frozen but appear over time, so I'd have added some movement to indicate they're forming while his body is shut down.

His slow moving speed, his eyes, the way he would crouch over mixed with that superb music definately gave me a horror movie vibe, he was almost demonic in nature.

What do you mean the creatures grew over time? Like while he was moving? I thought that scene was gross tbh. I don't care what anybody says ,that tail is a head of some sort with a skull. Watching those things split apart from it is gross lol

He means that when Shin is first frozen, his tail is not split with all the little creatures. Meaning the little creatures started to form after he was frozen. So Shin is still evolving even while frozen. Pretty damn scary and awesome :rock

This Godzilla is truly indestructible.

His tail evolves, it starts as a tail looking like a malformed head, then the jaw shifted and it was capable of breathing his ray, and then it became a source of smaller forms splitting away.

Constantly evolving Godzilla is such an awesome concept. I hope instead of wings like was mentioned in the film, Shingodzilla goes full 1971 :rock

Though in all seriousness, from an evolutionary standpoint, would Shin even need wings since he can swim to span continents? What you think about that biologist man who's name I don't remember?! :lol

I just took it as he has the biological ability to grow wings if his evolution saw it was necessary to a given situation. Just like I'm sure his hands aren't done evolving and his skin still isn't either, even in the films "final" form.

I watched that HDRip of Shin Godzilla last night and loved it despite the wonky editing and the fact that 20 minutes is sorely missing (read on Toho Kingdom that this might have been an in-flight movie for Japan Air Lines or ANA). But it was great to just pause stuff and take a look at everything Anno and Co. had created here. Great copy despite the 20 minutes being gone but it'll hold me over until the Toho release or whatever comes down the pipe soon.

I've fast-frwrd the LowQ copy weeks ago, it was nice.
Overall I've seen 30 minutes of it max.
I'll wait for the proper BDRip.

:lecture Now, that's Godzilla! :lol :yess:

Read over at Toho Kingdom that Shin Godzilla will be out on Blu-Ray in Japan in late March.

Half of it is quite cool and interestin' but the rest... either meh, wtf or cringeworthy.
I really wanted to like it, but... no, just no.
