Who care what people think, people need to change and lose their homophobia....:monkey4:monkey4 A good actor will make you believe in the character no matter his/her personal preference is.

Well, that's because Magneto was the bad guy, and people don't usually go to the movies because they like the bad guy. The reality is that Captain America is Mr. Red White And Blue, the Sentinel Of Liberty, and practically a symbol of National Pride. A lot of people would never tolerate a gay actor playing Captain America if they ever found out. There would be a public uproar, and people would boycott the film, and it would get a lot of negative publicity. Considering how much money a Captain America movie would take, it would be really inadvisable to cast a gay actor in such a role.
So you say "The reality is that Captain America is Mr. Red White And Blue, the Sentinel Of Liberty, and practically a symbol of National Pride."
So because the 'ACTOR', a real life human being may be gay they cannot represent the above, and portray this comic book CHARACTER.

Actors ACT, their personal life is not involved. They are either good at their job or they are not. This person would not be portraying the character he is playing as gay (as far as we know) so what gives you the right to be so judgemental and assume that there would be a public uproar at the mere thought of a gay man portraying Cap.
IMO, the only time the film would get negative statements would be if it stunk, was really bad or if someone made statements as you just have in it.
If you don't like the actor playing that role because he can't act or looks wrong fair enough, his personal life has nothing to do with it.
That statement is :lol

Captain America NEEDS to be played by an American.
He's as much an American Icon as CAPTAIN KIRK!!!
As much an American symbol as the every 80's teen MARTY MCFLY or ALEX P. KEATON!!!
He's got the American regal bearing of an ACE VENTURA PET DETECTIVE!!!
He's kicking butt the same way that Dan Ackroyd and John Candy kicked America in their collective gut with fits of laughter!!!

So let's hope a great actor like Ryan Reynolds or Ryan Gosling gets cast to keep the American stars and stripes going!!!

:angrycanu The invasion's already started-- you just don't know it yet.:naughty

I know enough about people to know there would be a large objection in the population to a gay actor being Captain America. True, not EVERYONE would object. However, I think enough people would object that it would be a problem for the film. It would be an unnecessary problem. Certainly, the Bible belt, and a large part of the Southern part of the U.S. would protest, as would all other conservatives, and in case you didn't notice, Captain America is probably one of the most conservative oriented comic characters out there, because he is associated with the Military and the American Flag. Now, he appeals to liberals as well, but because of his association with advanced military technology, which is associated with the right, and conservatism, rather than liberalism, we can readily see his conservative orientation.

As far as that goes, that is just my OBJECTIVE assessment of the issue.

In addition, you say that an actor's life is not involved? If that were true, then Paramount would not have dropped Tom Cruise, because of his rather unconventional viewpoints on various issues. https://money.cnn.com/2006/08/22/news/newsmakers/cruise_paramount/index.htm

In addition, I don't think he really looks the part enough, as he isn't strong looking enough, and hes really too old, considering that Steve Rogers was in his early 20's as Captain America, correct?

I have never been a huge fan of Captain America. I like the looks of the statue but never really followed his comics. I have never really understood the fascination with the character. He seems to be a contradiction to the ideal American icon. His origins are, he was a wimpy guy that couldn't get into the military because of his physical short comings so he volunteers for a secret government super soldier program. They inject him with a serum and he becomes a super soldier. A tall, muscular, blonde haired, blue eyed fighting machine. Isn’t this what Hitler was trying to achieve? Isn’t this one of the reasons we were fighting the Nazis?

What type of role model is Captain America? “Take you steroids and you can be big and strong like me.” Captain America couldn’t even compete in the Olympics.

Au contraire,I think the actor who would play Cap America should be gay.Gay men are more sensitive...Cap cried like a baby in Civil War....:lol:lol

As I recall, part of the Super Soldier formula was learned from the Nazis, not unlike our space program, and our submarine program.

I could care less if the actor was American or not... as long as they fit the bill.

I would actually want somebody like Daniel Craig to get the role... I can see him as Cap.

I was relaxing with roommates and surfing online when I had found out that rumors are swirling as to who will play Steve Rogers: Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and even Titan of the American Gladiators. I also noticed a Scottish actor being mentioned as a possible player for the role` Upon seeing this one of my roommates grew livid at the mere thought of Captain America being played by anyone not from the States which brings up a question: Should an American be cast to play Captain America?

To be sure with today's political and cultural climate the question is a loaded one; but I think it a thoughtful question to raise. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I am personally on the fence myself.

Why should he be played by an American. I mean actors have been playing other nationalites forever. I mean Jake Gulenhaal is play the Prince of Persia. Not to mention a Samoan played the Scorpion King. It really doesn't matter who plays who as long as they do a good job.

That's Puerto Rico.....the ones he is referring to comes from:

In the end it doesn't matter. But Captain America ,like Bond or Potter, would be a unique character to portray in that he stands for a nation's ethos. I would find it odd for an actor from across the pond donning the cowl of the Star Spangled Avenger. Still if as you say the actors performs well and does justice to the part it should not matter where he hails or whom he calls "lover."

A lot of people would feel that the fact that an actor is gay that he automatically could not do justice to the part of a quintessential American icon, whether he is a great actor or not. Because he is so liberal, you could have a gay man play Green Arrow, but I don't think that a gay Captain America, or a Superman would be accepted by all. I think Ryan Reynolds would be a better choice. I think that people tend to be underestimating how extremely conservative super patriotic people can be when it comes to American Icons. American icons represent the country as a whole, and since gay marriage is still illegal in 49 states, a gay man playing Cap won't be extremely popular. It isn't like it's coffeehouse theater, you know.
