I think his arm is black at the 1:00 mark, but the rest of the suit was completely clean too. It almost looks like an early fitting and they made changes afterwards.

What? :huh

I think the Tamashii one is more impressive with the wiring around the waist area and stuff which the Sideshow version doesn't have (the wiring is just sculpted). I like Sideshow's version because its the more weathered look whereas the Tamashii one is the brand new, clean look for the character. Probably just depends which look you prefer overall, but its hard to really say not having the final Sideshow figure out yet.

How do you think this one will hold up against the Tamashi? Think that one is worth the extra buck?

Wait for in-hand pics. We really don't know much yet because this fig is so dependent on finish. I'm also concerned that - like SSC's IG-88 - the delicate articulation they've put on 3PO will be clogged by the weathering application. The SSC headsculpt has a bulbous chin, but I like the SSC body sculpt more than the Tama.

I will have both 3PO's when this releases, so will put up a lot of comp pics.

Looks pretty good here, but if you stare at it you can see the chin may be a little large. Not a big issue from what I've seen so far. The proto vs. production Tama is a really tough choice. Production vs. Production will be more telling.

I really wish Sideshow would have included a detached arm with wiring and whatnot coming out to go with the exclusive damaged shoulder.

The other thing to consider is whether the Sideshow 3PO might fit next to the Sideshow R2 just a bit more naturally than the Tamashii does. Because in most of the pics I've seen on here, the shiny, diecast Tamashii really stands out (even when weathered) against the much more plastic-looking R2.

I think that will probably be the deciding factor for me anyway. Despite how clearly better the Tamashii looks on it's own.

Really wish Sideshow would have done real wires in the torso. The way it is just sculpted makes it lose some effect to me. Other than that I think it mostly looks good if not slightly cheap. You can definitely tell the figure is plastic as opposed to the more impressive diecast on the Tamashii version.

Yep, it's decent but it doesn't hold a candle to the Tamashii (face sculpt, material and wired torso). People can yap this way and that, but Tamashii has this beat hands down.

Yeah the main reason I'd choose this version is that I like the more weathered look. If I had a clean R2-D2 I might feel different (though I still like the dirtier, used looks for both characters) but I agree with the poster who mentioned the clean 3PO and weathered R2 would look odd together. I'm still keeping my order for this figure despite not feeling its perfect because the character is essential.
