There's a ton of pics on here of the Tama and SSC R2 together - they go beautifully together in terms of matched "look." The weathering on R2 is pretty subtle in-hand.

The bigger question is that the SSC R2 is about 10% underscale, which is just enough to be slightly noticeable. It's possible the SSC 3PO might be a smidge shorter than the Tama 3PO so would make the R2 height issue go away (at least for a 3PO/R2 display pairing.) Tama is about the right height. R2 does look a bit too short next to other figs too.

You can easily clean the crappy wash off sideshow's Artoo with acetone free nail polish remover. Then grime him up with tamiya weathering kits as you like. That's what I did. I then weathered the Tamashi Threepio. They look great together now. No need for sideshow's Threepio LOL

I'll post pics when I get a chance

I generally don't mess with stuff like that. I'd rather not try adding or removing paint apps and risk messing up the figure. If other people have the talent or guts to do so more power but I just don't do that with my figures. As for the weathering being subtle on R2 I do agree but you can still tell he's not shined up real nice like the Tamashii 3PO.

I'm not talented at all with modelling or painting but I did a pretty decent job. You can do it! Have faith!!

People can yap this way and that, but Tamashii has this beat hands down.

We'll see. :) I don't plan to replace my Tama nor do I plan to get this one, but every time I watch SW I'm slapped in the face with how inaccurate the Tama actually is. It's really no more accurate than anything else in 1/6 and certain things just pop out when watching the movie. Do it with the figure in hand and you should readily notice. Just don't let anyone else see you or they'll wonder WTF you're doing with the 3PO doll watching TV. :)

Yep, it's decent but it doesn't hold a candle to the Tamashii (face sculpt, material and wired torso). People can yap this way and that, but Tamashii has this beat hands down.

Pros and cons all over the place. Personally I don't care for the huge pistons on the Tama version....

Sorry for the ****** phone pics. Threepio looks a lot better in person.

Haha, no doubt there are a lot of inaccuracies on the Tama but it really captures 3PO, I think. One of these days I will compare it to the movie, though, just to see.

Yep, know the pistons were a deal breaker for some. In my case I just chalk it up to the limitations of the scale, so it's not something I actually notice when I look at the figure. I like SSC's 3PO, too, but certain things stick out to me more. Overall if what we saw at SDCC was a production sample, then it turned out better than I expected.

That looks amazing to me. If I had the Tamashii 3PO I'd be almost tempted to do that. It seems like a small thing but the real wiring on that figure makes it look so much better than the Sideshow version to me. That's probably the biggest issue I have with Sideshow's version. R2 looks better dirtied up too.

Personal Preference and cost... (great signature pic Fia2k9!)

The Tama looks awesome, but I still can't get over the cost. Not that it's not worth it (due to materials and such), but it's C-3P0.
As a character (particularly in the OT cast for me), he's significant and important, but I can't justify spending so much more money on him than the other characters who (for me) are more important.
For Pete's sake... it's C-3P0!

Haha yeah I'm kinda feeling the same way. :lol

3PO is a fun character and all... but I just can't justify spending the same amount on him that I would for a diecast Robocop or Iron Man. And even $230 for the Sideshow 3PO seems like a bit much.

It was a lot easier when the Tamashii was released b/c there wasn't so much competing with him, at the time. To drop $300+ now when it's competing with Stormtroopers, Vader and other main characters is a tougher proposition. Still, 3PO with R2 is a killer SW display piece, so if I came in late, I think I'd still find a way to grab one of these figures.

I have the exclusive ordered but tempted 2 cancel for stormtrooper luke. Decision's decision's.:gah::dunno
