And all the loose panels that constantly come open. This drives me nuts. HT's makes a good R2D2 and the SSC one is getting donated to some needy kid.

R2 sits on the shelf flapping those panels open left and right.

It's crAzy!!!!

You guys have it easy. My R2 is constantly drinking my beer to excess and then vomits all over the bathroom. :dunno

I've been thinking about buying the Tamashii C-3PO, but I can't decide if I think it looks better than this version by Sideshow. Ideally I'd like to get whichever looks the best on display. Of course the Sideshow version hasn't been released yet. So there are no in-hand pictures of it. I kind of like that the Tamashii version isn't weathered and beaten up, but that may end up looking good on the final product from Sideshow. If I find a Tamashii C-3PO for a really good price (used or new) I may jump on it even though I have no Sideshow final product to compare it to.

Anyone have any thoughts or guesses as to which is the better version? You can argue all day which is more accurate, but that doesn't necessarily mean that version looks better.

I love my Tamashii and would recommend it heartily (even having paid full retail of $400, which it turns out was way overpriced given what it went for afterwards). It's a gorgeous figure and not likely to ever be repeated. IMO, it destroys SSC b/c of the face sculpt (that chin is just ridiculously off) and abdominal wiring (plus the metal... I'm generally anti-diecast but it really works on this figure).

It has some issues with the pistons being oversized, etc., but looking at it in-hand, it didn't bother me a bit. If you can find it for $300 or less and it's in good shape, I'd jump on it. I always wanted to have a second to have as back-up but with these prices and the number of releases, I just can't justify it.

If HT does a classic 3PO, I may buy that too (though I wouldn't expect it to be more accurate in any way -- just a different set of issues) but I'll never sell my Tamashii (except under financial duress... just in case 10 years from now one of you guys sees it in a for sale thread :lol). Honestly, though, I think it's good enough to be in a 1:12 museum as an example of the best available for the time it was made. Beautiful figure.

Thanks for the advice! I found a Japanese site selling the Tamashii C-3PO new for $266 USD + shipping. Total after shipping was $317. Shipping was higher than their rate table unfortunately. I hope they actually have it in stock though, because now it says it is sold out after placing my order. I've ordered from them before and never had problems in the past. I'll probably buy Sideshow's R2-D2 with the $30 off coupon I have or maybe wait and see what Spooktacular brings as far as deals go.

I'd definitely be interested to hear your impressions of the Tamashii 3-PO once you get it in-hand. Pretty sure you bought the last one which is why it's out of stock, now. Hope you get a great example of this fig, fett! :duff

Yeah, I'm hoping they do actually have one left for me. The other Japanese sites I visit are all sold out. So I found it odd that it was available on Hobby Search, although you can buy it on Amazon and other sites still. So we'll see when they send me a notice to make my payment. I'm hoping there won't be any issues with the figure. I've seen a few people mention getting figures with imperfections, but I've also seen that a lot of people have had no problems. I'll let you know what I think of the figure once I get it, since you recommended it to me. One thing I might want to do is find some alternative for the base so I can have him on the same level as R2. I'm afraid he might fall over without a stand, and if that is the case then I either need to find a base for R2 the same height as the Tamashii stand or find two stands of equal height for both figures. Ideally I'd like to have C-3PO's hand on R2's dome, well maybe. I'm not sure how I will display them yet as I haven't even ordered R2, lol. I'm waiting to get the final notice to send payment for C-3PO first.

No pressure, Sol! :lol

This figure is always in contention for my favorite. I really love the pair of SS R2 and Tama 3PO. The metal on the Tama hits you from across the room. It looks like a shrunken down droid, and Sol touched on the pros and cons (con?) pretty well.

Good call on getting matching bases, fett. I never even took the Tama base out of the box. I've paired the two together with simple Tatooine bases (from the Tusken raiders), or sometimes on the Death Star bases the Stormies come with. R2 is a fantastic figure as well, the only thing that slightly stands out between these two is the different materials (and we're just talking about R2's dome vs the real metal of 3PO), but they still look superb together--I shuffle up my one detolf a lot, but these two invariably find their way to the top more often than not.

I also have my tama on a sideshow base with a waist grabber instead of the crotch grabber. Sits just fine and I put R2 on just the base without the post to make them on an even level.

That's a great price for this figure. Once you hold it in your hands, you won't care what you paid for it.
I also have mine in a SS stand. My house is ancient, & the floors bounce with heavy footed friends & family visits. He fell out of the Tama stand a few days after I got him :horror. Thankfully, I still had the packing box underneath the shelf. He came apart on landing, but only from the joints that break apart anyway, & he went right back together no problem.
