It sucks getting a dinged up box. But through your disappointment you must know that it's not Sideshow at fault here. Whenever a box shows up on my doorstep from Sideshow that's not dinged up I'm actually surprised. One layer of cardboard is all that separates the art box from the pudgy, burger-stained fingers of several sets of handlers and whatever else is being shipped alongside of and on top of it.
Actually it is... Sideshow chooses to ship the boxes in a way that offers very little protection. For a time the brown shipper was larger and the boxes had a styrofoam cap on the top and bottom. Even Grievous shipped with extra protection. With that additional packaging (that they did not charge extra for) you were pretty much always guaranteed a box would arrive in good condition.
So now Sideshow charges a lot more for shipping than they used to (and more than it would cost me to order from a retailer like BBTS), does not use a safe method to protect the box and won't replace something damaged. The artbox is part of the cost and value of the figure, everyone knows that, yet Sideshow is pretending it isn't.
