If that is the sculpt, it looks great. Proto paint app is killing the sculpt, I hope production is better. :slap

I think its the lighting more than the paint. Its lit from too many angles. You need shadow to show the details.

Perhaps. I still think it is SS crappy human paint apps. I stopped collecting SS because unrealistic tones used on human sculpts :monkey4 They showcased great skill with their armour and creatures line, heck the new Palpatine looks great but they cannot get humans right IMO.

Seeing the close up, I don't see any issues with the sculpt, or the paint, other than the eyebrows. Expression in the human face is greatly influenced by the shape and weight of a browline. This one looks softer than what I expect to see on Jango/Cody and that's the only thing that throws it off for me.

My experience with Sideshows figures is that the protos always look fantastic (as this one does) but nearly every time the final production versions are pretty far removed from them in terms of paint quality, it's one of the things that stopped me buying any more SS figures: consistent mediocre quality vs increasing prices = stop purchasing.

I feel the exact same way........even their well painted figures, like Clone Wars Obi-wan in clone gear is a very simplistic final product in terms of detaili.

The paint on the proto really doesnt do the sculpt any justice.
Additionally, the shoulder armor looks like it needs some futzing or to be turned down. Seems like there's too much deltoid showing.
That said, this is gonna be an awsome arrival.

I agree...something about the proto looks different than the unpainted sculpt. Maybe they tweaked it...but if they didn't, the proto paint has softened the sculpt a lot.

Doesn't matter, probably will barely display him sans the helmet anyway.

I agree. The head from the painted proto looks a little long, and too clean shave. The jango head from GG mini bust will be a good one.

The unpainted sculpt, both helmets, body armor are stunning. The painted proto looks cheap with unrealistic skin tone and textures :monkey4

Eh well, my once a year SS purchase because the Utapau armor is my favorite and I can pose with v2 helmet.

Re: Sideshow 1:6 Commander Cody - NEWSLETTER PO 8/19

Unrealistic by what standard? I don't see it.

My standard of course silly :cuckoo: j/k

Truthfully, it is based on my opinion. I expect lower craftmenship (quality of paint etc.) when a figure sells for $80. However, Cody is retailing at $125 which is approaching the low end of a HT collectible. Therefore, it is a fair comparison to look at the overall quality including the skin texture, complextion etc. of this figure versus HT. The difference is quite evident with a price difference around $20 - $30more for HT. Those who don't believe comparing to HT is fair then look at the level paint detail in the new Emperor versus Cody. Why the difference?

That said, I applaud SS for raising the bar with a wide variety of figures (Greedo, Yoda, Hammerhead etc.) which look great both in sculpt and paint. Overall Cody is great minus the human sculpt and I will purchase. I would just like to see SS raise their standards in this area, that is all.

I think what you're paying extra for has more to do with the three heads and unique armor elements. It's still significantly less than a Hot Toys figure, especially if you get it from a retailer. This is about what I'd expect from Sideshow for $125.

I consider that giving SS an "out" because IMO it isn't the case.

HT T-1000 retails for $150 ($25 more) yet has two unique head sculpts (with realistic skin texture), a helmet, multiple unique hand attachments, clothing etc.

SS Cody has pieces of unique armor elements, two helmets, a human sculpt and new armor paint otherwise, it is the same trooper version as the last 10.

I am not a sculptor, painter or cloth expert but again for $125 I don't understand why SS offers the same lousy paint app as a $70 figure. :dunno

MF provided proof the sculpt is there which IMO means the problem lies in the paint. Everyone has their own opinion which is neither here nor there but to me their inconsistent craftmenship is why I rarely by SS product. The armor and helmets look amazing then plop this doll like head on top and it ruins the figure. Guess it is a good thing I'll pose with v2 helmet :stormtroo

That skin tone might actually be a bit too light. Looking at photos of the actor.
