This is my first 1:6 scale figure - while I love it I can easily see how some might be disappointed by it. I don't care about the weight at all, but the paint application is very underwhelming compared to what it looked like in the pre-production pictures. In the early pictures, the finish had a matte metallic texture that looked like it could pass as metal as well as having very delicate weathering details. When I received it I was slightly disappointed to see it was a flat smooth plastic texture with some light marks that look like the kind of marks you can make on certain types of plastic by dragging your fingernail across it (hard to describe).

The shape, details, and articulation are absolutely great, but I would have given up the lights and sounds and paid slightly more for a better paint job.

Ok everybody, quiet down for a second! I have an important announcement.

Leonardo Dicaprio - Cheers Toast SMALL.gif

I have ordered.

That is all.

:Congratulations! How much did you pay?

Far too much. ;) $191 and a few cents after shipping. I blew my whole wad of rewards points.

My goals:

1. Eliminate the batteries (I don't foresee to much difficulty here)
2. Operate the sound via remote control - I have a few ideas.

Later in the summer (maybe) when I have some excess spare time (yeah right), add a servo to rotate the head back and forth - operated by remote or timer.

would you be selling any of those kits that I would love to have

That's the plan. :) He's going on my Hoth shelf, but primarily he's my next research project.

Powering the lights from an ACDC adapter like my other battery eliminator kits will be done in a few weeks once I get him in hand. The other stuff will take a bit longer. Once I take a closer look at the space available and how I can make it easy for anyone else to install parts, I'll figure out what supplies I need to buy.

I'm still thinking of picking this up too. Sort of waiting to see how the Hoth Luke and Han figures turn out though first because if I end up not liking them this figure is sort of pointless (although still cool).

Writes note to self:

"OPEN YOUR DAMN IMPERIAL PROBE DROID BOX!!!"

I have had it for over a month and a 1/2.......:slap

We shall watch your career with great interest.

Interested.

While I'd always pay a bit more for even better quality, can't say I agree the paint is bad or even just OK. It goes without saying that the prototype that's handpainted by a master is going to be nicer than its mass produced counterpart. Check out HT's Igor for an excellent example of this (at twice the price, too, so it's not just about "paying more").

Well done, you old scoundrel! Interested in the battery eliminator and remote for light/sound, so I'll do my part to defer the cost. :D

I didn't mean to make it sound like the paint looked bad, I was more pointing out that the prototype could have passed for metal with the dull metallic sheen while that effect is lessened in the final product. I still love it and don't regret paying full price for it but I am just a little wistful considering how close to perfect it could have been but just being slightly short of it.

Need some hands-on info from the freaks. I expect this guy to be fragile during assembly as I've seen all the discussion about the delicate arms, but how about after it's all assembled?

Once it's all put together, how delicate is it while handling to remove the top panel and head to get at and poke around inside? I'll need to know if I should do all my R&D on the big round parts alone before putting him together to be safe.

If you've ever built a model tank and fitted a turret it's the same kind of connection, if it drops to the floor your going to break a leg on this thing, the top pops off easily but I'll never remove the legs, the insides of the body and head seemed pretty well empty

I would do all the work before you attach the legs. They snap on pretty tight, so it might be very difficult to take them off later if they get in your way. The legs are not delicate per se. But they will get in your way because of their awkward placement and I imagine you'll need to manhandle the piece as you're working on it. Not to mention it will be much easier to have it sit without the legs on your table as you work.
