Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

I am wondering what people would consider to be the iconic look of Indy from TLC. ROTLA and TOD are easy, old man Indy = that movie that shall not be named, but I can't easily think of a pose that screams TLC.

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

Castle Brunwald "Rescue Indy" is my definitive Indy from Last Crusade.

Although I would love to get a "Professor Jones" in suit from the Venice catacombs scene. Actually, I'd love a "Professor Jones" from any of the movies...

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

I can't imagine it will be too long before the PO. There were rumors we'd be seeing him during SDCC, so I think he's been ready for a while. They were probably just waiting for a better time to reveal him when he wouldn't get too lost among other new figures.

Let's hope he sells well so they will see it fit to make more Indy figures!

Actually, scratch that. First, let's hope he comes out good! Then we can hope for more figures!

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

My definitive Indy from TLC would be from the tank chase... mainly because he's finally got the tie off and is back to his classic, badass look again. :)

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

Really hope this is not a bare-bones release. Jacket aside, in theory he could even come without a pistol...

And not sure what differentiates TLC Indy from the "iconic" Indy (i.e. as seen in all the 80's movies) look other than the tie? I'm all for another Indy, but beyond the headsculpt and some minor variation in the belt gear, what would define a LC Indy, especially if the headsculpts in general have barely looked like HF anyway....

To me ROTLA Indy has the iconic hat/whip/jacket look with the minor streets of Cairo variation and professor look, TOD brings in the distinctive muscular torn-shirt, very bloodied/beaten-up/machete look along with the tuxedo variation (cool but a bit bland,) but TLC didn't bring any new look to me other than young Indy which doesn't really "go" with other Indy figures to me.

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

All this has me in the mood. I'm off to watch TOD.

Edit: Done and it's still awesome.

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

If I were doing these… Here is how the releases would come.. :)

TOD Indy would be a DX style release… include two heads… scuffed up Indy and a clean no hat Indy head… Two outfits.. Tux and Battle damaged torn shirt… Accessories would be sankara stones and Nurhachi urn… Colt pistol as opposed to S&W.. Seriously weathered TOD style jacket at well..

LC Indy would have the full traditional Indy gear plus tie, webley green pistol and German MP40 submachine gun.. Also a grail diary, grail tablet in correct size this time, grail rubbing and grail cup….

Yeah…. if only…… sigh...

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

So... A little off topic from ToD, but this is how i've always imagined a release of indy from Last Crusade would look like, especially in statue form

A great scene from this indy adventure, that sums up the films meaning pretty well imo.

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

Eeeh, just give me a LC Indy PF with grail chamber base and I'm good.

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

Alex from Sideshow revealed yesterday that X-Wing Luke's price hike is because of the Disney deal finally kicking in:

Simply..it's the most expensive license we have at this point now and the effects of Disney taking over are now in full effect going forward.

-SideshowAlex

Most likely this TOD Indy will feel the effects of the deal as well, unless for some reason the Indy branch of the Disney/Lucasfilm franchise is much cheaper than the SW branch but I doubt it.

So be prepared for a hefty price tag on Indy!

The fact is, what SideshowAlex is failing to mention is that although SSC has to pay more to Disney, Disney is delivering what will likely be the highest-profile movie series of the next decade, with massive exposure and marketing dollars.... meaning LOTS more people lining up to buy 1/6 SW collectibles.

So - honestly - "blaming" Disney isn't quite fair. They're going to be spening several hundred million dollars in marketing pushing the SW brand. SSC will - in theory - sell a whole lot more figures due to the tsunami of SW created by Disney's efforts, so the justification for jacking up prices (to the degree they have) doesn't quite wash.

While there's been a few mutterings about a new Indy movie, it's still in very early planning stages, so there will be no media support whatsoever for Indy collectibles in the next 2+ years... so Luke X-Wing pricing just wouldn't make sense for this Indy. Indy appears to have been a tough sell at $100 - how's $250 going to work?

I don't think that added exposure and media frenzy will translate to added sales in the high-end collectibles market. It absolutely will work with regular mass market toys, I agree with you there. But someone who drops $200+ on a single action figure is someone who has to think thoroughly to justify the purchase, and is not going to buy a bunch of $200+ figures because they got caught up in the media hype. Buying a few $20-$30 figures at Toys R Us on a whim? Sure. Buying a bunch of $200-$300 figures? They are going to buy only because they truly love the franchise. And those people who really love the franchise are people who have been here buying Sideshow and HT SW figures all along for the past few years.

Maybe they'll gain a few more collectors. But I don't think nearly enough to make up for the amount needed to keep the prices down.

Re: SSC - Temple of Doom - Indiana Jones

I re watched this movie last night and I want this figure since the HT one came out before I was a collector. I seriously thought about getting a Dx05 and changing the head with a WPG hs. What you guys think should I go with a HT indy or waiting for this one?

WPG HS.
