In this pic, for instance, the hatless sculpt looks pretty darn good ...

There's just something really off about it. Looks too heavy around the mouth / chin area, not helped by the uneven painted stubble (too heavy on the upper lip). I also remember in hand around the eyes looked like he was wearing mascara. Simply put, it's not Ford.

Looks like Rex came out great paint wise. Hopefully Indy will look as good or better.

Sorry for the delay. My net connection went down.

First up, the headsculpt. I really like this one. The hair lets it down a little but I'm not sure what else they could have done given Rex's hairstyle. The face sculpt and paint apps are some of the best I've seen on a sideshow figure.

Its definitely the PERS system ruining that sculpt.
The whole thing is widened by jamming the box in there and the eyes and it causes the eyes to be set too far back.

Remove those two things and its a pretty good Ford.

Damn that rex looks awesome and the hair seams kills it. With sideshow if its not the paint is the eyes and now is the hair. there's always something kill their head sculpts.

To be fair Rex is pretty much bald with a spray on blond patch. The only way to avoid a visible seam would be to have done the head as a solid piece and you have to admit they got the eye plate spot on this time. Any character with actual hair is going to have that seam hidden. It's not as pronounced in hand either.

Guyliner is better there, but I think that shows that it's more than just the guyliner that is wrong with the sculpt. It just really doesn't look like HF.

And good to see that Rex look great! The eyes and the paint look great! I'm not bothered by the hairline. Besides, that won't be an issue with figures like Han and Luke where you don't see much of their hairline thanks to poofy 70s/80s coiffes! And on Indy, I'm going to have him with his hat on anyway. Sideshow has made some serious strides between Drake and Rex, so maybe by next year they will have perfected the hairline issue.

Yeah people really like to focus on the PERS and guyliner with that HT Indy, but to me the nose, mouth, and jawline are just as problematic. The shapes for all of those are just completely off.

Well judging by the new pics of Escape Snake that SS just released, I wouldn't get your hopes up for this or Hoth Solo.
If this is the best they can make it look with professional photography lighting and photoshop it's another howler, not quite Drake bad but still.

Maybe their new method shouldn't be all or none. Use it when it makes sense, etc. What would they do for a totally bald character? The seam might have been better down the middle of the head rather than right at the hairline. Actually seems like they might have done that for Snake.

I agree 100%. I wasn't defending the seam or the choice to go with separate eye plates. For Rex a solid head would likely have been better. It was more to illustrate a great improvement in paint app and the eye system actually working. With full bodied hair figures it would look better.

I'm waiting for in hand Snake pictures. A bit too much hysteria and hyperbole going on it that thread.
