The Captain Rex sculpt is also pretty good--a huge improvement over their last version:

Just saw this photo comparison from phase I to phase II on Jeditemplearchives. Nice improvement:

Yeah I'm not too worried about another botched Drake situation with this Indy. It's just what the actual underlying headsculpt will look like in hand, and if it still does enough to capture Ford even with a good paintjob.

That's also quite a size difference between Phase I and II.

Also, when does Indy become coupon eligible? I tried a coupon a few weeks ago and no deal.

After drake, snake, and supes, i have little trust in SST.
Likewise, they have come on leaps and bounds in other areas, but the heads? Jesus, I'm not getting burnt again. Not buying until I see in hand pics.

I don't really understand your logic. We haven't seen a decent SS head yet (for this price range) why would this be better?

This Indy really needs to show collectors that SS are serious about matching Hot Toys in terms of quality and not just prices. Not impressed with their Han and Luke's even at the proto stage, but Indy shows promise.

I've bought and weathered up a HT Indy jacket and am going to dump my rp's on Indy once my HT Marty points clear.

Remaining relatively positive until I see anything concrete with this that causes me serious doubts.

Based on how Snake Plissken turned out, that's not going to happen.

Like I said, I'll judge this release on its own merits (or lack of them). I can't comment on Snake as I won't have him in hand until next week. That said, I have committed to having the headsculpt moded and repainted already based on the pics posted on here [emoji6]

As mentioned earlier, I picked up the HT jacket and weathered it up with a view to using it on SS ToD Indy. Given this was my first attempt at anything like this, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

I'm just saying that my main concern is with the basic likeness, and not the quality of the paintjob. From the pics we've seen so far, it's just hard to judge what's really going on with it, and if it'll look any better or worse in hand than it does now.

Hey matj007 paper clip and glue the collar down and that will really nice!

Really nice!
How did you do the weathering?

A Sideshow sculpt from days of old could be repainted to look good, but now we run the risk of it being malformed too! :lol Seriously, that eye system crap can go. Admittedly, that one clone sculpt looks good.

It is completely confounding to me that a company like 3R can put out a smashing head sculpt but a supposedly big leaguer like Sideshow thats been in the game to TWO decades can't. And I'm not a hater, I WANT Sideshow to succeed, but its hard to make excuses for this stuff.

Drake was hideous.
Snake is amateur hour at best.
And that Superman figure is seriously one of the wonkiest figures I have ever seen. And that's not hyperbole. I mean it. It makes it all the worst that its $200.

Snake was the figure that a lot of people (myself included) were hoping would turn up the quality for Sideshow head sculpts/paint jobs. That didn't turn out so great so now we have to see if their Hoth Han and Luke figures come out any better. If not I'm going to be done with unmasked human figures from Sideshow for a while. I want the Hoth figures and this Indiana Jones figure but I'm not going to shell out for sub-par figures. People can say what they will about Hot Toys and they aren't always perfect, but at least they are fairly consistent and deliver a product that matches or exceeds their prototypes in most instances.

Han & Luke should be a better indicator than Snake , as they are at the new higher (regular?) SS 1/6 price point. Having said that, I'm not impressed with either Han or both Luke's even at the proto stage. Indy at least shows more promise of a higher quality headsculpt finish, but until we see the final production piece I don't think anyone is overly confident at this stage.

That's what gets me too. Now Star Ace is turning out spectacular headsculpts. Hell, even my Brothers Production Deckard bootleg has a great paint job and finish, much better than what Sideshow has been delivering.

The new eye system was a good idea but it's been problematic to say the least. I actually thought the eye on Snake came out pretty good, but the paint and finish on the head was like what Sideshow had been putting out a year or more ago. And from what I saw, the paint on Supes was pretty good (better than Snake), but then the eyes screwed everything up.

The Hoth figures can go either way at this point, but I have to believe that with a year to work out the kinks, Indy will come out good.
