I'm going to be taking photos after supper, but my first impression is WOW! I think you can argue that the old version is more accurate to the on-screen puppet's sculpt, but the new version is basically better in every other way. And the throne may actually be a bigger upgrade than Jabba is. The paint is so much better. Oh, and the eyes in particular are so much better that the previous version seems like a joke.

This is the thing holding me back - the old version sculpt to me still looks a little more screen accurate if you can see beyond the old factory paint. I'd rather have a spot-on sculpt that needs a repaint than an amazing paint-up of a sculpt that's very nice (and a bit more detailed) but not quite as good likeness wise.

Obviously the new figure has the aspect of everything done for you, but when I look at Ajp's repaint, it looks so spot-on ROTJ Jabba (even if it's maybe a tiny shade too red-orange) and doesn't have the little gaps around the eyes and mouth... and to me doesn't need those pieces because the expression is 100% Jabba and there's a guy on eBay that sculpted a tongue that can be inserted if you wanted it.

This is frustrating but I think I'm just going to keep looking at more in-hand pics before deciding. It's actually great that the new fig's $800 because if it was $600 it's likely I would have pulled the trigger already. That extra $200 also says "you better be damn sure this is what you want... for the next ten years.":lol

Here's the repainted old Jabba by itself (for easier viewing than the before-and-after pic). As many have said before, the old sculpt was a pretty good one, so I'm curious as to why Sideshow didn't just repaint it and release it as a Version 2. I think plenty of people would've been okay with that option.

Wow, awesome pics, icruise. Thanks for posting.:clap

Love that artwork on the bottom of the throne too.

I do feel like the new sculpt is a bit of a caricature while the old one was about as close to a 1/6 scale replica of the original puppet as we are likely to get. I’m keeping both so I don’t have to make a decision but I wouldn’t say that the old version now looks terrible or anything. But the level of detail in the paint job on the new version really does make a big difference. This is not an action figure in any way, though. It’s 100% a statue.

you have a link to this seller on ebay that`s selling those sculpted tongues for jabba.

Is there a way to tweak that left eye so it doesnt "run down hill"? I've noticed it on the Sideshow video one - where the eye on the left isn't flat/level like the right eye (the left eye seems to run down hill to the left side a bit.) Just wondering if it can be turned slightly in the socket or if that's how it sits.

Also, do the arms seem a bit oversized in person?

The sculpt is really fun though, even if it does feel a bit caricatured/cartoonish - let's face it, Jabba was a bit of a caricatured character anyway.:lol It sometimes feels like I'm looking at enlarged pics of a Hasbro Jabba for some reason, but Hasbro has been doing some amazing jabbas lately, so that's no criticism (the 6" one and the new Barge one are well done.)

The only mouth that looks good is the closed one imo, though if the tongue could be tweaked in a bit and the slime repainted it could look cool.

The arms do look a bit oversized, I noticed that too. As does the bumpy skin texture on the 'hump' and the arms.

The way the mouth fits is the most distracting thing though for me. The eyes look fine, actually look like Jabba's since he had similar circular things going on there.

But I think the overall head shape look better than the v1, which has a weird thing going on on his right side near his mouth (our viewing left).

I really wish that fishbowl lit up.

By the way, I am pretty sure the entire new setup with Jabba and all accessories weighs noticeably less than just the old throne by itself.

The old throne was made of polystone right? Is the new setup made of a material you recognize. How much does the new Jabba on throne weigh do you suppose? I know some people don't care but if it's an $800 statue I don't want it to feel like something that cost fifty bucks at a toy store when you pick it up. Great pictures by the way!

I wouldn't say it feels too light -- more like the old throne was ridiculously heavy. Not sure what the new one is made of.
