So since SSC uses the standard rule of measurement and the rest of the world uses metric... does that mean R2 will be bigger and more in scale with Tamashi 3PO?

Far right.

That droid was on the second Death Star. This is the Yavin droid.

Yeah, I was just talking about a black R2, not the specific one pictured. Yavin droid with black and silver is coolest looking.

It wasn't until ROTJ that they seemed to decide black droids were imperial - on the death star in SW, there are "normal" white-type R2 units all over the place - so in SW, black R2's are used by rebellion and Empire.

Here's some better pics:

Black R2 units are also seen on the miniatures, even one with orange on it like the ROTJ death star one (though they're obviously just a few blobs of paint at that scale.) An X-wing has a black R2 for while, but the most visible one is on the Y-Wings.

Agreed. Shadowtrooper is not black enough. Definitely it needs more black around it. Maybe add Darth Vader (only if you cover the chest and belt lights with electrical tape, though) and a few TIE Fighter Pilots for contrast. This is assuming they're displayed in a black Besta, of course.

Variants of their R2 do seem like a pretty obvious strategy for SSC going forward. The black R2 and R5-D4 would be the most obvious and Hasbro showed that people love R2 variants (though at $150 a pop - not so much.):lol

It's what makes that Luke X-Wing price all the more baffling - they could have easily done several two packs of rebel pilots coupled with their astromechs for somewhere in the $250-290 range but when Luke alone is $240...

It needs more black figures around it (and preferably displayed in a black display case with no lights in a dark room -- ideally one is wearing sunglasses when going into this room) to really show it off, I think.

Great minds, Invictus :duff

Here's my rockin' display (sorry for crappy iphone pic):

That's exactly the kind of blackhole trooper display I like to see. I'm having a hard time making out which battalion that is, but I like how they're all in formation, except for that one jerk in the back on the right. If this isn't proof positive that troopers were all different heights, I don't know what is.

Astromechs with no working panels or accessories could be churned out for $100 a piece...if the price scale hadn't just shifted upwards by that much.

So the shipping estimate to send this to the UK is $45, but for Hoth Han it's $30. Sideshow must be trying to claw some money back on this release.

I showed the 1/6 figure pics of R2 to a friend and she immediately asked if Sideshow was going to make an R2-KT

I told her I didn't know but that it would be cool if Sideshow did and donated some of the profits to the Children's Cancer Research Fund.
