It's not a matter of whether it retracts or not, it's what it looks like after it's retracted. Instead of being seen to extend up into the body like it should, it looks like something that is simply attached to the bottom as a separate piece (even if it really isn't).

I suppose it's not the most important thing ever, but it's a cool little detail that I've always loved about the physical prop, and I'm really bummed not to see it on the SSC version.

Although looking at the pics again, I suppose it's possible the guy taking these pics simply pulled the leg out a lot farther than it should have been, in which case.... never mind. :p

Ah, I'm with ya. That's the kind of detail I'm blind to, but hopefully we'll get the effect you're talking about in the leg.

Wonder what they've just noticed in the factory samples sent to them that's different from the prototype?

They added that to most of the other preorders as well it looks like. Shouldn't be much to worry about, but like Kuat said I guess they finally realize that their products rarely look like the prototype so they might as well own up to it now.

If they wanted to be fully above board, they'd make the time and put in the effort to shoot brand new photos using production pieces. This "prototype shown" business is total garbage when an item has already been available for months.

In the case of Drake, they may as well have shown artwork from the video game if they don't want people to know what the final product looked like.

I think they've always had some disclaimer in the photos saying "Prototype shown". I believe it was usually inset within the photos themselves. And they used to re-shoot the figures with the final product, but they stopped doing that on a regular basis. Now just a few get a new photoshoot when the production pieces are ready to ship. I think they did a new shoot for ESB Vader most recently.

Well, in all honesty they should also not be shooting their product in such dramatic lighting. The colored gels that are always used in most of their marketing does a lot to alter the true product, they should give us what we are getting us and let us do the artistry.

I got my notice and am very excited to get this figure after seeing the video. I like all the lights. Also, I think the leg was pulled out too far so the compartment where the leg is stored is not seen, I'm sure we will be able to have the compartment showing.

More photos of the regular edition.

Assuming all stock transits by Sideshow US warehouse before dispatching, you are probably right.
