I'm right with you. I'm so close to having a "finished" collection in my eyes that I'm soldiering on. I'm happy with what I see from the R2 pics, so I can check that box off. Chewie is also a big box to check. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn good and the price isn't HT Vader or Thanos crazy. Just a couple more figures need to be announced and I can feel good with my collection.

I'll probably still get a figure here and there in the future just for fun, but I'll have a sense of contentment that I have what I had always wanted.
Yep, that's a good place to be. Life's short, so I want to tie this up relatively soon and devote more cash to other stuff.

Im in the same boat I.S. The Canadian $ has tanked and I am dropping the Shadow Trooper and IM Hot Rod.
Good for you. Think those are two good misses, to be honest. I get the appeal with both but neither seem essential.

I've been all over the place planning my 1/6 Star Wars collection for months....but now I have it down to bare essentials...3 Hot Toys Stormtroopers, my Probe Droid and one Sideshow Scout Trooper with Speeder Bike.

There are about three other characters/iterations I'd be very interested in, but no must-haves anymore. I'm feeling pretty chill about it. This property is just too deep for me and eats space.

Anything I've sold off I actually loved; but I guess extreme focus is what I'm about.

The only thing I'm absolutely interested in from Sideshow now is a Snowspeeder Pilot Luke. I would display it with the helmet on so although I want a decent likeness it'd be an easier sell.

I still think the R2 is pretty great overall, but after sleeping on it, I feel good about my eleventh hour cancellation. Had it matched the prototype I may not have.

These are things we have to decide personally on a case by case basis; the Probe Droid didn't match the proto either, but I have no regrets about that, as I'm sure most of you won't regret R2.
I've read your posts and think the way you're approaching your collection is great. I gravitate to minimalism, in general, and this hobby is the only area in my life that sort of bucks that inclination. Once I have my essentials, I'm going to rotate the display, live with the pieces for awhile, and then slowly start thinning it out, I think. At some point, I can see just having been happy with the stuff I had for the time I had it (say everything was on display 5 or 10 years) and selling it all off/giving it away.

giving it away.

LOL...you and me both. ;)

Exactly. Some of my pieces I've lived with or worked on (customs) for a couple of years now...some I simply had to experience in-hand...the odd one I changed my mind before receiving.

But time more than anything tells me what I want to live with, and it's relatively little.

I do try to integrate the pieces with each other regardless of property or scale by the way...finish and colour are meant to complement each other. Now *that's* OCD... ;)

So now that we have seen some in-hand pics of R2 (thanks jay) , what do you guys think about his height. Most discussion so far has been focused on how the seams look, and some of the paint apps. Side by side with 3PO, he looks to be a pretty good match, but does'nt line up with that circular torso thing, as seen in most pics or screencaps from the OT.
It's close enough for me though, but the 3PO we have to compare it to is one thing, this years ssc's version may be another story entirely.

Thoughts?

Got charged today too, still have no idea where I'm gonna put this little guy. He might actually get snuck into the wife's curio cabinet in the living room, she won't notice for a while lol

Nicely Done! You're probably good for at least a few days. :lol

PS Charged already, Item shipping soon. Boy, SSC doesn't waste any time hitting the card. It isn't even posted in my account yet, but the funds are gone. :monkey3

These have been some great posts to read. My contribution is that I had a collection years ago, sold it off, and recently started to build up a collection again, but realised owning the stuff never actually matched the feeling of getting it, opening it and examining it... I also find it hard to keep hold of something that's worth $500 and truly enjoy it when i know just having it on display reduces the value and I'm likely to end up selling it.

I enjoy looking at new figures, I get bored of them after a month on a mantlepiece or shelf and I'm just not a detolf-owning kind of person. While there's some things I won't sell - my Jedi Luke custom - I'm finding that I basically rent figures rather than collecting them - buying and selling them on pretty quickly. And actually I enjoy that more than owning them, so that's how I approach this hobby now.

Have to admit, it's tempting to just cancel all my pre-orders and bail on collecting, especially with the cost having gone up considerably due to our dollar being devalued. Everything I've got I've wanted for a long while, though, so I'll tough it out. Want to be satisfied with what I have within a year or two and be finished, though. I think collecting indefinitely is not something I would find enjoyable.

Yaknow, what, Sol? That might be the truest thing I've read in a long time.

Between Snake Plissken, Marty McFly, the Time Machine, another Boba Fett, R2-D2, some Stormtroopers, and a few other figures, a lot of personal grail-type figures are making their way to us, and a great deal of wants are getting crossed off my list. I would say that after another year or two (after I clear out my current preorders), my collecting will be pretty sporadic, if I collect any more at all.

Among the many great things about this hobby, though, is the fact that we can usually turn over (trade or sell) our figures on the secondary market and at least make back the money spent, so at least we'll have something to show for the money originally spent.

Anyways, great post, man.

Hell yes. I don't miss anything I've sold, even if I thought it was great, and I love it when people are even more excited about a custom I've sold them than I was.

I recently sold off four modded/custom troopers of different kinds in anticipation of what my final few purchases will likely be for Star Wars...to put it in perspective, it was about 80% of a plane ticket.

Iceland, Germany, Norway and back. Experiences always trump material goods. Not that there's anything wrong with the latter, it's just an illustration of the balance I look to cultivate.

I recently took old Sideshow figures including Luke Ceremonial to the Goodwill and they wouldn't accept them.

He is too small, but I'm making some wheel lifts to lift him almost 1/4". The undersize height isn't at noticeable as I thought it would be though. He's also not big enough (ie volume/width) but that's also not as bad as I feared. Interested to see whether there's any height difference between the SSC 3PO and the Tama.

You lose all Lonely Planet street cred if you stop in Finse however.

Thanks to our crashed dollar this came to $250AUD shipped which is $50 more than the local price. Not sure the EX was worth it. This drop in the dollar which will more or less be pretty permanent is going to kill most of my collecting. The already large price rise on these figures plus a 25% increase from currency movements is a killer. Oh well, probably for the best in the long run. I collect way too much anyway. I'm in two minds as too whether I keep my EX Scout Trooper, EX Arc Echo and Fives and EX Deadpool preorders. Deadpool is probably the best too keep as the EX is a pretty substantial piece and what drew me too it in the first place.

So is there anyone that's waiting on this to ship that also has the R2 & 3PO SSC premium format figures? Curious to see how R2 compares to that beauty. Was too rich for my tastes and they take up too much space (I have 5 of the SSC SW premium format statues, nice but 1/6 more managable). Plus I knew they'd eventually do the 1/6 so was an easy pass, although now it seems to sell for crazy$$

I was planning on posting pic next to the PF R2 if no one else does first. Still can't believe they managed to make the PF dome seamless but this one has 4 seams.

We're currently at seventy-eight cents to the dollar; another reason I canceled. Sideshow must think I'm the biggest tease.

If this had been top-of-list, currency considerations etc. wouldn't have swayed me, which says something.

Yeah, those extra little arms probably aren't worth that $50 (certainly $20-25 to me at least,) but it's possible the extra customer service from SSC is worth something too (over a reseller I mean.)

LOL...bullet dodged. ;)

:lol A better man than I.

And... still no shipping notice. I guess SSC noticed my complaints about height on here and bumped me to the naughty list.:gah:

That's actually a real consideration I factor in. I've had enough broken fig's/statues over the years that dealing direct with the supplier has been a big help. Sideshow always make good with no extra cost to me. Heck, I got a drawer full of Wolffe heads because they kept sending the wrong replacement. Eventually they just sent them all again to make sure the right one was replaced ha ha.

So yeah, a little extra is insurance, but too much more...

But looking at the local resellers, most of the recently announced figs have had the currency drop factored in so the difference will be much smaller (assuming the dollar stabilises) but current PO's, I think a few will be changing to local (Star Lord for example).

That's why on my last trip (Hong Kong), I made it a point to get the Hot Toy's Robocop over there. Toys and trip/experience = win!!!

The low Aus dollar is a bummer, but I thought about reward points, SS customer service and getting it at the same time as paying for it instead of paying and waiting til the end of Feb.

I'm with what a few others here are saying - the upcoming HT Star Wars figs and I'll be done. Maybe the odd figure for a birthday or Christmas. I just can't get excited about a $300+ doll anymore.

Yeah this damn crappy dollar (read... "oil") business is pissing me off. Combined with outrageous shipping fees from the US, its past ridiculous at this point. I haven't cancelled anything yet, but I've also put a stop to all online purchases unless its from China. Hell I just got a complete set of 6 Predator hands from China for $16 shipped and they arrived in 4 days...4 DAYS...4 FREAKIN' DAYS!!!
