BTW, I posted my review... aside from some problems with the compartments and the life scanner I'm really digging R2. I might be a touch generous, but honestly think he's about as good as we're going to get especially for anything under $200 :lol

GalactiReviews- Deluxe R2-D2

Thanks for posting the review - without it I would have no idea the lights worked via touch panel. I thought it was intermittent or had something to do with a partial rotation of the head, both of which worked to go through the light modes. Little did I know I was also touching the panel each time!

Sideshow needs to work on their instructions. It shouldn't require quite so much investigation to figure out ... maybe I'm just slow.

They don't explain how to get the head off. The instructions begin with the head already off. I was sitting there staring at R2. Turning it over and over again, expecting it to twist off or just fall off.

Also, GB thanks for the reminder about the touch-sensitive lights. I could've sworn in one of SSC's earlier videos they showed touching the lights to turn them on, but when I had to flip a switch to turn them on, so I figured I was going mad.

Clearly no one read my instructions (warning) two days ago about how to get the head off and that it wasn't addressed in the instructions. Ah well.

GB: that's a very kind review.

All about the Flaps. It is even looser than the videos shows and very little moment and the things flings open. Can anyone tell me if the periscope is meant to fly open like that or lock into place?

UPS is playing with my emotions!:gah: R2 was scheduled for tomorrow but I got a notification while I was in class that it was out for delivery. I got an email from UPS saying I had a delivery scheduled for today but it could never update the tracking info. It was always saying that the last event was the destination scan. I still held out hope, but alas, no R2 when I got home. :( Hopefully it was just a glitch in their system and its delivered tomorrow. Otherwise, its a very real possibility that it was taken off my porch...

Loose flaps?

It's not surprising with the amount of abuse the little droid has had to suffer over the years from Goldenrod.

You know it's coming...

And thanks, DC.... Sometimes I wonder if I'm being petty, but I think this is a pretty obvious defect.

Dude, I've bought every SS SW figure from SS since Jedi Luke and I've sent back figures for less because you know what, I'm a loyal customer and supporter and I'm going to be satisfied with my purchase! Gotta check mine too!

Due to finances, I'm forced (!) to pay for my Tauntaun this month, and R2 in March as per flex schedule. I feel so left out...
However, I thought I would bring up the (non)metallic dome issue. It seems the seams are not bothering people as much as anticipated, which is a good thing. What always bothered me, even as I sit here with no R2 in hand, is the silver paint on the dome. Next to my Tamashi 3PO I know it will look like... well, paint. So, I'm considering a solution:

Somewhere here at the boards I read about some extremely fine metal powder which can be bought at hobby stores online. Applied with a cotton swab then polished a bit by hand, the result is a surprisingly realistic metallic finish. The powder is SO ridiculously fine, that is gets worked into every tiny nook and cranny and never rubs off, unless the surface is perfectly smooth and non-porous like glass. In fact, some powders are atomized; that's right, you can buy a bag of aluminum atoms... I just searched ebay, and found aluminum powders aplenty. (the higher the 'mesh' number, the finer the powder.) Judging by the existing paint on the dome, the surface looks like it has the ideal texture to receive this kind of powder and hold it.

IT... COULD... WORK!!!!!

Didn't ready anyone instructions here or the ones SS sent and still figured out everything with ease. :lol

SS did a pretty good job on R2. This is my first large figure of him and was surprised by the size of him in the box. yea that's what she......

Nothing wonky, broken or mis-aligned on mine. And doesn't feel that fragile.

I like the touch process of turning on the lights.

Now hurry up with 3po....
