Just had a quick look at mine before I head off to bed.

I don't mind that he is fragile or light but I do mind that every time you touch him every panel falls open. Don't need the lightsaber to open anything, just a slight tilt will do. I'm also disappointed mine has some scratches on the dome. A couple at the front that score into the plastic. Will have to contact sideshow.

Thanks Wor-Gar for the lowdown on how to get the head off. You think that would be in the instructions.

I'll take some pics on the weekend with the premium format R2D2 and post them up.

Now to find that video posted in here on how to use the scanner and periscope...

Yes, sorry I was responding to issues people were having about the scanner and para scope not staying up......I figured out mine and made a really fast...poor quality utube video about it....

Hopefully it's helpful to some.....

Working with R2s hatches - YouTube

Thanks for this video. Very helpful.

Anyone figure out how to change the horseshoes around?

SS R2 is old news now.
Funny, but as long as I have waited and pined for R2, it was the most anti-climactic figure opening ever. I just took him out of the box sat him on my desk and that was that :lol

Sure as hell wasn't like opening a Joe figure that could go on for hours, R2 took all of 5 minutes.

Taking pictures wasn't even fun, he's awesome but not exactly a thrilling pose fest to be had :dunno

He wants you take pictures of him like you do your French girls.

lol, pretty much. He is a great looking figure. But yea, waited almost 10 years for this paper weight of a character. :lol

Didn't ready anyone instructions here or the ones SS sent and still figured out everything with ease. :lol

Ive never read or touched any instruction manual with any figure I've ever bought. It always trips me out when once in a blue moon someone will pop into a thread asking about a Manuel for such and such figure because they have a question on how to "operate" it. :lol

While R2 here probably deserves one than most I think I'll just stick to what I usually do: Eye it up and wing it.

I have a strong feeling this is the way it will be for me. The only thing I will even take out the box is R2. The rest of that junk is staying in the box. Ill check the lights, "yep it works", than next to Threepio he'll go rarely to be touched. :lol

Does people periscope flap stay closed or do i add that to the list before emailing Sideshow :lol
A wizard sleeve wouldn't have a look in!!

You need a magnifying glass to read the intructions that where sent with R2.

Thanks for posting the review - without it I would have no idea the lights worked via touch panel. I thought it was intermittent or had something to do with a partial rotation of the head, both of which worked to go through the light modes. Little did I know I was also touching the panel each time!

Sideshow needs to work on their instructions. It shouldn't require quite so much investigation to figure out ... maybe I'm just slow.

They don't explain how to get the head off. The instructions begin with the head already off. I was sitting there staring at R2. Turning it over and over again, expecting it to twist off or just fall off.

Also, GB thanks for the reminder about the touch-sensitive lights. I could've sworn in one of SSC's earlier videos they showed touching the lights to turn them on, but when I had to flip a switch to turn them on, so I figured I was going mad.

Happy to be of assistance fellas :duff

Clearly no one read my instructions (warning) two days ago about how to get the head off and that it wasn't addressed in the instructions. Ah well.

GB: that's a very kind review.

Ya know, in a way it is kind... but also I think it's fair. At least my own figure didn't have a lot of issues... only one body compartment opens on it's own when tilted... but all of the top ones (with the exception of the lightsaber hold) do. But aside from that every other thing I wanted in R2 was met; great sculpting/scale, great paint, excellent light-up feature and some accessories. The opening bits are really something I could have done w/o... shame they're not as nice as they could be, but I look at them as more of a bonus.

And since I work in education I look at a 4.5/5 as a 90%... I think R2 is certainly deserving of an A- :huh

Yeah, I did find there was a limit to how much you could really photograph him :lol He's as well articulated as you'd expect, but he wasn't the most versatile robot :lol

:lol:lol:lol

It's kind of a shame though... really great accessories. Maybe the complaints about him will hurt the value and I can pick up a second one on the cheap. I'd love to add him to the Jabba display; but like you if I only have one it's going next to 3PO.

SS did a pretty good job on R2. This is my first large figure of him and was surprised by the size of him in the box. yea that's what she......

Nothing wonky, broken or mis-aligned on mine. And doesn't feel that fragile.

I like the touch process of turning on the lights.

Now hurry up with 3po....

Pretty much sums up my opinion on the figure.

Glad to say my R2 is issue free. Beside the loose panels, everything is working perfectly. very impressed by the touch and light feature.

Mine is still sitting in its shipper. I feel like paying someone to open it for me and put it on the shelf.
