It's not QC. So far the paints seem very consistent between units.

The paint happens to be wrong in a couple places. That's a different thing. That goes back to the master the factory received as a guide.

I 'm not sure what they are called, I just noticed that only one of the three "projectors" lights up. Is that supposed to be that way?

There's a ton of light bleed (on mine at least) so my rear projector actually has a dim green glow. Not to mention the different colored lights that bleed through all the little gaps on the dome. :lol

Wow, R2 looks great after a bit of alcohol.

I managed to get $10 off at Popcultcha, so R2 will be on his way, shipped for $AU 189.
That was about the best deal I could get locally here in Australia.

I'm guessing this isn't normal...

In some cultures that's considered a sign of good luck! ;)

You can remove a few screws, from the underside of the dome, pop the cover off and then reaffix the projector. Should be easier and a lot more environmentally friendly than destroying that dome and getting a replacement.

Ah, good thinking. I'll give it a try.

Haha... nope. Took all the screws out (and batteries) and even though I was able to pry the two underside loose, it's not coming apart. I could see glue inside. I'll wait to hear from SS before I risk busting this thing.

Someone else on here had the same problem and said that it was just VERY tight but not actually glued as it originally appeared to be. He had to use considerable force to pry it off but it did come off.

I had a flat piece of metal wedged in there prying it while also pulling the top dome, and it wasn't budging. I may give it another try after I hear from SS. Don't wanna risk trashing it before I know I can replace it if needed.

Got mines today, seems to be in great shape...although the figures feels light and cheap, visually this little fella is stunning and will look amazing on display! Was a bit skeptic, but for the price, it was well worth it!

About a year ago, I bought the Taito R2. I did a complete lighting mod on it, which turned out very good. In preparation, I created small light-blocking compartments for each light, and painted them and the rest of the interior black. NO bleed-through whatsoever. I drilled out the three projectors, and all the other spaces for lights from the inside, then fitted each one with its own compartment. (I also did several other corrections, including radical surgery on the feet.)

Now my Taito R2 has features that I wish my coming R2 had... Maybe I need to consider the Taito job a rehearsal, and now the real job begins on the SS version.

For those who want a simple solution to the light bleed-through, maybe gently stuff the dome interior with some soft, dark colored foam rubber pieces...? (after you go through the hell of removing the wall underneath the dome)
