If you don't have a HT Stormtrooper there is still a massive hole in your collection. I have R2 standing on my desk too, flanked by two of the most impressive Star Wars collectibles I've ever seen.

It feels like we are finally getting the SW 1/6 collection of our dreams. Chewe and Han, bring them on. I cannot wait for ANH Luke and Leia.

Nah, I'm cool with the Sideshow Stormies. I'll admit the HT ones look great, but I can do without paying $200 to replace a $90 trooper that I'm perfectly fine with.

I'm not replacing many of my Sideshow SW figures except for ANH and (hopefully eventually!) Bespin Han. And maybe Vader but an ESB version.

*Yoda voice* You will..will you will.. you.

Any of you lot have the Medicom?
I pulled it out earlier to compare, firstly yes it's not 1/6th, it's tiny.

But you know what? the build and finish on it makes the SS version look and feel like a cheap toy. The detail on it is so much sharper, it's sturdy, heavy, the plastic is much much better. Shocking when you think about when it was released. I like the SS one. It can look good on display. But its so frickin cheap and flimsy. The build on it is a joke. A pile of lose bits of plastic thrown together. The finish on it is awful as well. Again, typical for SS, they got so much right and fell at the last production hurdle. I really didn't even notice until I pulled the midget Medi out to compare.

I do, and I'm with you on this.
Nothing against the SS version. Its just personal subjective preference. Just like how I prefer the Medicom Amazing Spiderman over the HT version.
I've kept going over and over the videos, pics, and looking at my own Medi R2, and I just feel that, for me personally...the build, paint, and quality...I just like the Medicom better. So I cancelled my SS PO.
The biggest drawback of course with the Medi is that is tiny. No doubt about that.

Maybe later on, I may eventually pick up the Sideshow version. But for now, I'm content with the Medi R2, at least until I see what HT has to offer.

Medicom also got the blue shape around the eye the correct depth and the middle leg at full extension looks a lot better (work-around, don't extend Sideshow's leg all the way). If it were the correct scale it would still be a very nice R2 next to today's SSC and HT figures - unfortunately it's far too small even next to Medicom's other SW figures.

Yeah, the Medicom is nice if you don't care about scale... but even in the absence of other quality 1/6 version I could never bring myself to buy one. The Hasbro was at least a bit closer and size and for $20 a "good enough" stand-in until now.

I do think I'll pick up a Taito clock now that the price has come down again, it's not perfect but will prevent me from feeling any need to buy a 2nd Sideshow R2 :lol

I dont know man, I really dont see the big thing with Taito.
Before I bought the Medi, I did buy a Taito R2.
But the thing is, I couldnt get myself to settle for it though. Yeah, the scale is great,
but it looks like a $20 figure...It looks very cheap, looks like something you can pick up at Toys' r us.
That's why I cant get over how many people hold it in high regards.

I'd rather spend money, but knowing that it would look really good with the rest of the collection.
It really bugs me when I have something in my collection that just doesnt gel with the rest.
I'm really more into quality over quantity, so I would gladly spend some money but knowing that I would be very happy with it.
The taito just stood out over the other figures and kinda cheapen the look of the shelf it was on.

Yeah, I have the Taito and it's great at a quick glance but directly look at it and it really is at the level of a higher-end Happy meal toy.

ANH Luke and Leia are my two most wanted figures in the OT. I remember as a kid opening my Christmas stocking with the yellow blade Luke and Leia in it. That day started a serious addiction :lol

I agree. Even though it's not 1/6, I decided to keep my Medicom and sell the new SS R2. The colors are more vibrant on the Medicom, and it feels more substantial.

Same problem on mine; SSC is sending me a replacement dome. Glad they are doing Domes only, cause the panels on my R2 fit nicely

I'd preorder that instantly, assuming the price doesn't jump to $225

Yeah, same - their CS is second to none. My R2 body was also really tight and great (no floppy hatches or "ankle" joints,) so glad they're doing domes only. My lights also didn't work (well, I got them working then they stopped again.)

Hmm, my local comic shop has one for $150, and I'm seriously tempted to get it. It would be nice not to pay for shipping, but I wonder if it might be smarter to order through Sideshow in case there are any issues....

You can't go in and inspect it? Any issues will be pretty quickly spotted.

Got mine last night and it's pretty nice. The only QC issues I have is there's a paint smudge or something on the lightsaber hilt and a small black stain on the dome but not anything I'm going to complain about. The figure is nice overall but feels a bit fragile and I wouldn't have minded if it had some more heft to it. Also I couldn't figure out how to remove the dome at first and had to watch a YouTube review to find out how. It would have been nice if the instructions were a bit more detailed. Overall for the price I'm fairly satisfied and patiently await C3PO.

Question all: does the light on the back viewer light up as the front viewer? On mine, I push the button for all lights but the front viewer light, the back one always off? Just checking if normal or should they both light up?

Got mine yesterday and its beautiful, my only complaint is that its a bit too flimsy. Other than that its a great figure.
