I'm sorry, everyone.

:lol

I tried to get a complete replacement and was told they would only send the dome because they couldn't guarantee the paint would be any better on the replacement unit. The top of the first blue "arm" in his chest was missing probably 25% of the silver paint. So a lot of white showing through. I went ahead a picked up a silver paint pen and fixed it myself. Not an exact match in shade, but better than no paint at all.

You should always ask them for a partial refund or credit on your account if they want you to keep a damaged product and/or do repairs yourself. IMO, that is really bad customer service on their part and a real stinger on their QC cockup.

You are right, Pixel. Especially after after all the years and $$ I've been with them as a customer and haven't used their CS much. I used a ton of RPs so thought that was why I was getting short changed. I kinda of thought they'd offer a discount to me, but that's me being a bit naive. Oh well, the extra batteries basically offset the paint pen.

Exactly! I'll take the thinner plastic and hinges that look better and more accurate over a chunky oversized parts done in the name of 'quality' any day. I'm specifically looking at the Tamashii 3PO and his huge pistons.

Each to their own, but I'm curious as to how fragile the SS 3PO will turn out to be and whether those nicely scaled pistons will present a similar figure to this R2. Looks great, just don't ****ing touch it.

We'll have to see. I would have gone for the full monty with the pistons, not the half-implementation they ended up with. The Probot has some small pistons that generally work well, even though they could have been made better and more robust - at greater expense of course.

OK I know R2 is supposed to be weathered and a little beaten. But can someone tell me if that is what I am seeing. Or did I get an extremely bad one.

And I will say I am also not impressed with the packaging. Most of my parts were scattered all around inside the box.

Looks like the plastic is being pulled inwards

You see that's just what I was referring to. Mines not that bad, but I can see all of those issues on mine and in the pics of others. It's just cheap ass bad production and QC.

Both. That fugly blob of silver next to the eye was done on purpose, but the other things are production defects. Remove the motivator and memory board and send the shell back for a rebuild.

Production defects? you said that these were going out exactly as Sideshow intended them to be? Jesus, you blow like the wind.
You really do believe your own guff don't you. :lol

Has anyone with a bad R2 unit decided to strip the paint, sand the seems off the dome, fill any depressions in the plastic and repaint?

You need remedial reading comprehension and to lay off the antagonizing before it bites you hard.

Not yet, but I've been reading up on paints used on the OT props. Mr. Sparkle of the RPF has done a great breakdown of R2's many paints and DYKEM brand Steel Blue dye is one I might be tempted to touch up the panels with.
