I play with the features on my R2, and even though they aren't made of metal, none of them have broken yet. He's a lot of fun, and doesn't have any oversized, inaccurate parts included for the mere sake of sturdiness. I would love to have paid $400 for a shiny metal R2 that will break my foot if it fell off the shelf, but I am perfectly happy paying $150 for a plastic one.

Only thing that would have made me happier is if there were no silver paint on the eye housing. Terrible artistic direction right there. Somebody was too busy designing hot dead chicks...(now haz anti-Sideshow cred, btichiz).

It comes off super easy with a little scrape of a blade edge, looks masses better without it.

I figured it might. Encouraging to hear others have been successful. What would be great is if someone could nail down the shade of blue they used.

Mixing a color to match isn't difficult, but getting the correct metallic base is where things will get super tricky - any touch-ups would probably stand out very obviously if that wasn't on the mark.

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of some brave soul doing a complete repaint of all the blue parts using any decent-looking metallic blue.

You can do it pretty well without damaging the blue. Even if you do you can just dab a tiny amount of matte black acrylic on it if you needed to cover anything. The blue eye piece is covered in matte black weathering already. No need to worry about the metallic blue.

Sorry to hear that, I was very careful not to scrape too hard and it turned out great. What color is it under the blue? Is it silver again or is it bare plastic?

It's just the bare white plastic. I have a replacement dome coming from Sideshow, so I did it without fear.

I was only looking to smooth over any uneveness left from scratching at the finish. A light wash, at most. I assumed the base shade would show through, but I didn't want any variation to mess with the final outcome.

Oh, yeah, that's different. Some polishing alone might get it to the point you want.

I got mine here are a few pics. A few panes were loose but I took some elmers glue to the hinges and now they are fixed. Has anyone thought about getting a second one to make an R5D4.........

I used matte black acrylic, it came out purrfect

My R2 review (sorry in advance to those who are happy with this)... **In my opinion** its 70% garbage. It looks good on display, in fact it can look GREAT when displayed properly, because the sculpt and look of it is the most accurate R2 we have gotten so far. BUT.. its a cheap, flimsy pile of badly constructed plastic bits. It feels cheaper than a Happy meal toy. Bits falling off all over, plastic seams down the front of the dome, bizzare paint app choices, faulty wiring, rough plastic runner tears, and to turn the thing on you have to pull the head off, then watch the flickering lights blink on and off as the circuitry decides if its gonna work or not. Then try to get the badly fitting dollar shop plastic head back on. The **** that comes out of his head? Jesus H christ, what a design disaster.

Great initial sculpt, unfathomably cheap production.

After Drake, Yoda (mine fell to bits), R2 and by the look of it Solo, I'm done with SS. The prices they are charging do not equate to what they are shipping.
Great protos, so some real talent in there, but incredibly cheap production. Just not good enough SS.
Shocking, I could have guessed this review before you wrote it.

By the way, wasn't Captain Britain blasted for saying the same thing long ago?
