By the way, was Captain Britain blasted for saying the same thing long ago?

He got ripped three new ones and then conceded once the pressure became too strong. Now that a couple of other people have swung his way, he's overcome his stall and back on the hate track. ;)

If you're going to bash something, at least do it for the right reasons - we all know all these collectibles are super fragile. Talk about total misses like R2 still being too small, the blue rectangle around the eye being only half as thick as it should be. The over-extending middle leg. Those are the big ones for me.

I'm not "swinging" any way, in fact I was unaware of Captain Britains comments until Wor-Gar just mentioned them a minute ago.

I'm simply commenting on a figure which I paid good cash for.

Bash something for the "right" reasons? What you mean your reasons? I don't have any of the issues with the figure that you have.

This isn't about high end collectibles being "super-fragile" that's crazy talk.
How about the QC issues?
Messy paint, faulty lights. Bad plastic seams, lose doors, parts that literally fall out of the head. Terrible production on an excellent sculpt.
And you have to take the dome off to turn on the lights? Fine if it was made with some sophistication, but it's so messily made that even taking off and on the dome is difficult because the build is so crude.

Excuse me?

I didn't concede anything, I opened my mind to the possibility that I was mistaken, based on comments like yours about the Probe Droid being more durable than it looked... of course, the recent QC comments have shown that R2, at any rate, isn't. But yeah, that was a ****storm I didn't enjoy.

There's super fragile and there's, well, R2. You wouldn't give a high-end figure to a kid to play with in a sandbox - but equally you should be able to operate it in the way it's meant to be operated without worrying its going to break.

That's really a complaint? That only has to be done once, and then after that it's all touch sensitive. To me that's preferable to the sound button on the probe droid (they did a good job on the light button for that figure, very well hidden).

Production and QC issues are covered by Sideshow under warranty, so if it breaks or it's broken out of the box, or the glue or paint as messed up or it's scratched, marred and parts are stuck/missing/loose, they should take care of it. I'm mostly concerned about things that they can't fix after the fact, design issues like the three I mentioned.

It's a legitimate gripe and a PITA to have to keep taking the dome on and off. The touch function is great but you still have to turn the switch off otherwise the batteries will drain faster. No reason the on/off switch couldn't have been cleverly hidden in one of Artoo's panels.

Agreed 100%. I also can't believe people are complaining about the lights 'randomly choosing' when to turn on and off when they're too lazy to figure out how the touch panel works.

I'm getting my R2 in March;
Can someone do a detail check for me please? I want to know if the blue frame around the large eye is molded together with the dome, or if it's a separate piece. If it is separate, I plan to remove it and add a layer of thickness underneath (make the edges flush, repaint) then put it back on. If it's molded as one piece with the dome, as I suspect it is, I'll just live with it. Thanks~~

Do they cover cheap flimsy plastic? How about badly designed, loose to the point of falling off attachments? Or bad production plastic flashing just painted over as if it's fine.

Anyone can send their item back to Sideshow, but thanks for pointing out the obvious. I don't think anyone is questioning their excellent aftersale service rather the actual production and quality of their figures.

Anyone else find one of these inside their R2?

It actually shouldn't make much of a difference if the IC has been implemented properly. Sort of like a remote control for your TV - there's no on/off switch, but the buttons are ready to be pressed at any time.

Back to QC:

If the panels fall out, flop open, if the plastic is damaged in any way, get a replacement from Sideshow. Keep getting a replacement until it's the way it should be. Keeping it and complaining here in the forum is a disservice to yourself, to Sideshow and to all future customers or all future products. It's the best way to let them know they're not doing a good enough job.

WRT to "flimsy" plastic, well I don't have one in hand to see if it's PC, ABS or PS, but the thinness of the doors is a scale issue/necessity. In no way should this limit the ability to have a properly assembled and functioning copy.

Exactly! I'll take the thinner plastic and hinges that look better and more accurate over a chunky oversized parts done in the name of 'quality' any day. I'm specifically looking at the Tamashii 3PO and his huge pistons.
