No, Hot Toys would make an R2 with about 50 percent die cast and the rest would be rubber (that begins cracking shortly after you begin to display the figure). It will look great next to Ed-209

I would never pay a customs charge that arrived after I'd received my item. Why can't you just tell them to **** off? That's what I did the one time it happened and I never heard from them again. What are they going to do?

Hold all future packages until you pay everything you owe? That's in addition to eventually selling the debt to a collection agency and and adding to Equifax's (and other) records.

Got an e-mail from Sideshow today saying they got the pics of me destroying my defective dome.
They said the destruction was satisfactory.
I'm guessing that means I won't be charged for the new dome then.

That is all kinds of awesome. These are looking like set photos from the movie - 1:1 props.:clap

Did you just do the rubbing alcohol dab technique and then add in a bit of weathering here and there?

Thanks, and yes i rubbed down the dome with alcohol, glossed up the blue panels to make them pop abit more and added a little weathering. Wanted it to look a little more like this...

That picture confirms it! That splash of silver paint on the right of the Sideshow R2's eye is supposed to be a reflection!

Ha, that probably is where they got it from. Either that or what what was intended as just a bit of silver along the edge turned into a much bigger chunk somewhere down the production line.

Hmm, looking at that pic, I'm reminded of just how overly bright the other lights are on the Sideshow figure. They're nearly all as bright and powerful as the projector light, when it should really just be that one that is the brightest.

Whenever I get around to modding mine, I'm going to see if there's a way to tone those other lights down somehow...

Here's some daytime shots of last night's weathering. I'm really happy with how the oil paints and turpenoid grabbed onto the old weathering on the dome and punched it up a notch. I will need to let it dry a bit longer before I can add another layer. The dome is actually still workable and it might be a day or two before it's dry.

Nicely done, and thanks for the info.

Thanks Lopie.

I was doing a quick test with Dykem Steel Blue Dye. There's little doubt in my mind this is R2's blue on metal, but on plastic it's dull and offers nothing over the current color. Crap.

Perhaps. I'll be playing with the Dykem more before I throw in the towel. I also have a tube of cobalt blue oil paint to hedge my bets.
