I agree 100%... Every other R2 has been the wrong scale... except for the Taito Japan, which I have- but the details are way off on that. Actually, I've spent the last month adding LED's and making physical corrections and refinements to it, and now it looks pretty damned good. So... NOW they decide to release R2... *facepalm*
Judging by the SS video, I think my LED's might actually be even better. I did tons of research, and found some really cool color-changing LED's. I also made film-accurate patterned gels in Photoshop to put in the little windows that look more accurate than this SS version, at least the rectangular horizontal one on the rear of R2's head. The SS version of that particular light has multi-colored dots, but they should really be mostly green, a few orange and one or two red. recreating the pulsating effect would be tricky; I did this with color-change LED's which smoothly cycle through eight or ten colors, then I put a constant green with that.

All that said, I am completely HIGH looking forward to this release. Instant buy. I wonder if it has a sound chip? If so, there goes the price into the stratosphere... lol
I'd really like to see your custom when it's done mate. :duff

Yeah.. detail.. accuracy. We tend to get carried away with it sometimes - & I'll be the first to admit that I'm particularly A.R when it comes to all that; hence my disdain for SSC's flubs. That said, one has to be reasonable & consider each piece & the restraints / possibilities associated with achieving a high level of accuracy for said character.

Stuff like all the bells & whistles in R2, I'm willing to be flexible with, since there were multiple props that had specific functions for each scene etc. Asking for accurate analogues of all those features in one tiny mass produced figure.. is a little unreasonable. :lol The lights on SSC R2 look pretty good for what it is - & as long as I can get him for a fair price, I'm not too fussed.

Seems like the projector is articulated. Also the frame for the "porthole" for Kenny Baker to look thru is slightly incorrect. Checkout the bottom left corner. This shouldn't be slanted. But I'm still getting this guy.

Been noticing that since the video came out. It does kinda bother me. It's a major detail.

The price is irrelevant to me, as are the materials.

I'm concerned about scale; a retractable middle leg rather than a switch-out one; and it'd be nice to have a stand that would be paired well enough with the Tamashii stand - and/or a SSC 3PO announcement.

The description says "retractable":

`An extremely well put-together little droid.´Joining the Star Wars Heroes articulated figure collection, Sideshow Collectibles is proud to present the R2-D2 Deluxe Sixth Scale Figure which stands approx. 17 x 11 x 89 cm. Everyone´s favorite droid from the galaxy far, far away is ready for adventure with intricate articulation and fantastic detailing. The feisty blue and white astromech rolls right off the big screen, with sequencing lights and a swiveling dome that features various moveable ports and hinged panels. Additionally, Artoo features a hidden Skywalker lightsaber hilt with a magnetic tip that allows access to a range of his internal gadgetry, including periscope, life-scanner, and multiple articulated arms for performing various intergalactic duties. Recreate all of your favorite movie moments with special bonus accessories, including Ben Kenobi´s round table, Leia’s secret holographic transmission, and a multi-tiered beverage tray for R2’s one-time server gig on Jabba the Hutt’s luxury sail barge!Full of fun and surprises, this R2-D2 figure from Sideshow Collectibles is sure to delight Star Wars fans and collectors of all ages.

Something wrong with the dimensions though!

I presume the retraining bolt is magnetic, so it can be placed on any of the opening panels.

I read R2 will be shipped out march 2015 so he might be released for pr-order tomorrow based on the silhouette in the may the 4th.
